If you are like me, it can take a while before you find the right moisturizer for your hair. And we all have our favorites, but if you have hair that is dry, coarse, thin to thick, then you need to try silicones. Silicones come in a lot of different ingredients. They are typically listed on an ingredient list as dimethicone, pheyltrimethicone, or clyomethicone, but there are many more.

So what is absolutely great about silicones is that they have the ability to cling to and spread over, under and around the cuticle. They move around easily over the hair shaft and hold up really good under water pressure. If you flat iron your hair at all, they really do a good job at smoothing out any rough edges on the cuticle. It has a lush, velvety texture that makes the hair feel really silky smooth. But don’t go overkill on it because If you use too much it can leave a greasy rather than silky feel. I have tried using mineral oil, petroleum and plant oils when flat ironing my hair, but they leave more of a sticky feel.

So if you want to try it out, here are some products to use that cost less than $8.00.

African Royale Diamond Drops ($4.99 for 2 oz.)

Soft Sheen Carson Megahertz Hi:Gloss Serum ($5.99 for 2.5 oz.)

St. Ives Hair Repair NO Frizz Serum ($7.50 for 1 oz.)

Try it and tell me what you think. Or if you have tried it, please share on this thread.

Silicones are not moisturizers.

But, you're right that they're great when using heat or as a serum after you've moisturized (either by conditioning or using a moisturizer) because they can make the hair shiny and smooth.

I'm ALWAYS skeptical about a member who has been here for a long time and has a relatively low number of posts.... Seems like an advertiser to me...

I agree with msa; no moisture with silicones I use them sometimes with my ghd but not for moisturizing properties. Just curious, Have pasted the info from another site OP?

Doesn't seem like an add to me...well maybe because some of the information wasn't accurate. Plus, the products shown are for 3 totally different brands of product. I could be wrong though....

Water equals moisture... not crappy silicones.... Since silicones come in different grades and these are cheapos - they are crappy.

I don't feel like it's an ad...just a post to get more exposure for her blog and book. Not necessarily anything wrong with that, since OP isn't breaking the rules.

Valonne, next time you should make sure you are posting the correct information. There are a lot of people who read this site who could be misled by this.

Oh SNAP!!! MSA because of what you just said I clicked on her link and now I see EXACTLY what's up. Please ignore my 1st post everyone...except for the fact that the information is not correct.

Wow!! I'm mad at the T-shirt. That was first seen here on LHCF years ago, and armpit mark is not level. Can't knock your hustle, but I don't this this is the best place for your product.

Some companies own a lot of different brands. And just because things are misspelled means nothing.

Hi ladies,
MSA you raised a good point. In general, silicones work by covering hair with a thin water-proof coating. It really works good at reducing moisture loss from the inside of the hair; and it lubricates the surface of the hair so it feel smoother and combs easier. Some oils are effective conditioners like coconut oil, for example because it penetrates the hair and make it a little stronger. Oils are useful ingredients but they’re not direct replacements for silicones. I decided to share with everyone what seemed to work the best because I know it can be tough to tell from the ingredient list which ones are really good.

I think people are referring to the fact that the OP has a blog from which she sells her book and other things, not the products themselves. At least that's what I was talking about.

And my issue wasn't the fact that things were misspelled, it was that she gave the wrong information. Silicones DO NOT moisturize.

Also, if a business owner cannot find time to check their grammar and spelling then that is a problem, IMO. I won't buy a product from someone who is too lazy (or doesn't find it important) to make sure they have their spelling together. You don't represent yourself well if you couldn't take the 30 seconds to spell check. What does that say about the time/energy/detail they are putting into their product?

Nothing in my post was misspelled.

Further more, I thought LHCF was a casual, fun environment to share hair tips and products with all the wonderful ladies. I get alot of information from everyone here about what works best and I was offering the same thing.

It really is. Please ignore the negative comments in this thread.

Ladies, if you don't have anything nice to say, you know what to do - just skip the thread. Thank you very much.
