The Benefits of Controlling pH levels

I have been getting an education on controlling the pH level of our hair. I have been rollersetting, will little product, it comes out nice...but yet still I lack the bounce I want. I also have underprocessed (texlaxed) hair, which may be the culprit. But I have not been paying any attention to the porosity.

I read in another thread where Lonei suggested the use of Roux Porosity Control. Her hair is not bone straight but her rollersets are bouncy and airy. Which leads me to wonder if I start to add Roux Porosity Control or other acidic conditioners to my regular regimen, will that add the bounce that my hair seems to lack?

It should help. Your hair will do better at absorbing and retaining moisture if it has the right porosity, which will give your hair more bounce.

I am not as well versed as others on these types of conditioners, but I do know that one added benefit of pH balanced hair is a flattened cuticle, which would allow it to be lighter and more light-reflective. The two things that have helped me to achieve bouncier hair is the use of super diluted setting lotion and using PC as apart of my final rinse. I use it once a week, on shampoo days. The first time I used, it was after a relaxer touch-up and I had some other issues so I cannot say that I got phenomenal results from it. I revisited it after a week and have been using it regularly for the past 3. I like it. Some ladies use it before their final rinse, which is what I might try. They say that it helps their hair accept DCs much better. There is tons of info up here, I guess you just have to dig a little. I'll be back with a link. HTH

Thank you so much for that info. I have been so diligent with my rollersets and the passed two weeks I just gave up and went back to airdrying 'cause the hair was not bouncy. I read that my hair may have a pH imbalanced. So, my next question:

I am going to henna tommorrow for the first time. Once I rinse out the henna, should I use the Roux Porosity Control after or should I use the Porosity Control even before I apply the henna (let it dry first)...in order to get my cuticles in check?

Like the other poster said, low ph conditioners do help flatten the cuticle. I like to use acidic conditioners (in my case porosity control) just about every wash for that reason. I am looking for an low acidiy leave in for that very reason. I also find that the help detangle me too.

I would love to know the answer to this question. I picked up some PC and i hope that it will help with my raised cuticles and the rough feel of my hair.

I wouldn't do that . Henna is already acidic
