I decided long ago to avoid using my blow dryer at all cost. I've been air drying the same way for so long, and it gets great results. Just braid up my wet hair and sleep on it. A perfect routine.

So yesterday while having a wash day, I found out belatedly that I was suppose to go out with my parents. I have less than 20 minutes and I don't want to wet bun when it's 31 degrees outside, so I take the blow dryer and have at it. It's in a nice puffy bun, and I go out with no complaints.

The next day, however, I have shedding galore! I cannot believe this! My hair is thin enough already! That's it! I am never doing a full dry with my blow dryer again!

Hm. I never have that problem. Maybe you should assess other possible reasons you are shedding before dismissing the blow dryer?

What was your wash day routine/products used?

Blowfryers are the debil for me too. All that tugging and hot air is too much for my precious locks.

The same routine I always use. I shampoo with a non sulfate shampoo, detangle with a lite conditioner. DC with steam. Rinse and then blow dried it. All other weeks have be a few strands on the floor. This time is layered the floor. Ugh...

I had this problem before, but not to this degree. Early I would use it and find that a lot of hair was coming out. So I started to air dry only and my hair got really soft.

What is SMB?
Maybe you protien overloaded? Did you use any leave in condish?

That's Sabino moisture block. The Aphogee is just a green tea/keratin spray it contains no protein. I did my protein last week, with no shedding.

Trust me, it's the blow dryer. I seldom blow dry, and when I do it always on cool or I half dry it and let the rest air dry. I don't really need it, unless it's to stretch my hair. So, I'm simply throwing in the back of the closet unless it's time to stretch.

Air drying all the way...

My hair also hates blow-dryers. I always have to let my hair air-dry in some stretched state (braids, twists, roller-sets) then I can flat iron and be just fine. Its something about that darn blow dryer though...

OP, did you use high heat or did you blow dry on a warm temp setting?

ETA: I see you that already said that you blow dry on a cool setting.

Nah, this time I used it on a high setting. It's first time I've done that in a long time. I needed my hair to get dry and be stretched in 10 minutes. Otherwise I use it only on a cool setting after my hair has almost completely dried. I know that's the reason I'm losing my hair today.

This n=might not have to do anything with the state of your hair but, just to clarify: Keratin is a protein. Therefore Aphogee product has protein.

Lol ya I was about to say I have the green tea and keratin IS protien. But if you don't want to blow dry any more I guess it don't matter xx

I use to get bad breakage from blow drying. I don't know if this will help any but I airdryin big braids with a heat protector(Mizani)...b/c I dont want to burn my heat when I wake up I use a little of the Nioxin heat protectant (I don't know if people need 2, but it works wonders for me).:ohwell:

Anyway lol...I blow dry the braids individually using my denman brush and my Remington blow dryer(on a warm setting, I hate my hair feeling 2 hot 2 touch)..I dont use the comb attachment either. I blow dry behind the brush, this doesnt hurt my scalp either

I dont know if this helps, but I barely get breakage this way...

Also I always DC before, and use a leave in. I use Megatek so I dont do protein treatments like Aphogee, they make my hair weird.

Honestly it could be the products and your technique you're using that could cause your problems. I only use serums when I going to flatiron and use sprays when I'm just blow drying. I noticed you said that your hair is fine so smb maybe too heavy for your strands.
Did you blowdry on high or medium/low? Did you blowdry in sections and how gentle were you when blowdrying?

I misspoke. What I meant was this spray contains a negligible amount of protein. The full name of it is Aphogee Keratin & green tea restructurizer. It doesn't work as a protein treatment would. Instead it just seems to make my hair softer and shinier. Furthermore, it doesn't help prevent me from needing a protein treatment either. I've been using it regularly for several months and no shedding has occurred because I over used it. It's just another water based spray. It's harmless.

I generally don't shed unless I blow dry or I'm relaxed and I need a touch up. Since I'm natural, obviously #2 doesn't apply. I stopped heat drying early this year because I didn't like how stiff and dry my hair felt. So I air dried once, stretched the roots on a cool setting, and flat ironed. And the results were just mind boggling amazing. I had never gotten my hair to be that soft and silky before. I kid you not, it was Asian silky. Even more, it all reverted back as soon water hit it! After that, the blow dryer was put on notice.

Yeah, I should've stuck with that....

I have been bunning for nearly a month straight now. I swept my bathroom floor over the weekend and there was hardly anything on it. I normally have enough hair on the floor to make a small wig but that is from blow drying and combing so much. I am being much nicer to my hair so it will be nicer to me and give me APL by April.

It's not the products. I never shed. I've been using this line up for three months and the results are just awesome. Sabino is for the flat ironing, of course. And it's never been too much for my hair, it's actually just right. Nah, heat drying is pretty bad for my hair. It leave it with this awful crunchy feel. Air drying leaves it really nice and soft. If it's too tight, I use a low setting and stretch it. It's no big deal. I just dislike blow drying with heat.

Oh don't get me wrong! I love this stuff! I just think you may be underestimating the strength of it as a treatment. A few sprays does make my hair silky and shiny but i notice if i use to too much my hair starts to feel dry and hard (classic symptoms of protein overload)

Anyways, it is possible that blow drying might be the enemy. I know I certainly i thought it wan't for me until tweaked my regime and got mastered my technique. Best of luck :yep:

Based on everything now, I guess your hair does not like heat. Some hair flourish with some type of heat and some causes harm. I hope you will be able to remedy your situation.

No, just hot air or overly dryness on my scalp. For some reason it does well being pressed. Without the blow drying it gets really soft. I retained 3 inches since September. Good deal.

I never thought I'd see so many people coming to the defense of blow dryers on LHCF. what's next fine tooth combs?

OP my hair also hates dry air, I only use my blow dryer for DCs with my soft bonnet attachment.
