I havent used heat since my last relaxer and I am tired of bunning it. I believe that the fall is the best time to wear the hair out- no humidity, not too much rain, and no wintery fabrics to zap the moisture out of my ends.

I also want to flat iron because I feel like I am bald. lol. I have a lot of new growth, maybe 3/4 of an inch. But my hair is doing so well, I would hate to get a few splits from flat ironing when I didnt need to.

What's a girl to do? Maybe I will use some rollers and wear my hair out. But that style has worn out it's welcome on me, too. I am either like this (see below) or bunned.

I say go for it. Your hair is strong enough to withhold it.

What's long hair if you can't enjoy it? Now if I can only take my own advice.

That style you have above is so beautiful. I wouldn't flat iron just yet. I would do the same curls you have above but style it differently. E.g. front/sides down and back up or back down and one side up. There are so many ways to style your hair with such beautiful curls. Mix it up and not do the same style too often. When you have exhausted this, then I would flat iron.

Thanks for the responses, ladies!

Mizani- I always think that my hair is weaker than it is, so I am extra careful with it. I am surprised my everyday brushing (albeit minimal) hasnt snatched me bald.

Ivanay- Thank you! That does sound like a good idea. More practical, I suppose. And it is always good to make a heat a last resort. :)

Determined- Bwahahaha. :lachen: You sound like my hair conscience. The little voice that led me to start this thread instead of to the drawer holding my sedu.

leeleepop- It isnt so much the new growth that is bothering me. When I mist it with water and spray it with gel, it lays down. It is the length of the hair! I am "texlaxed", so being that I airdry, the rest of the hair is only a little bit looser than my natural texture. It is getting cooler (will have a low of 45 degrees tomorrow), so wash and go's are out. :(

awww, how pretty! I think you should flat iron maybe once or twice to get it out of your system. After that stick with the curls as that is very flattering on you. How do you do your hair that way?

Thanks, Bre and Sareca.

Either on wet or airdried hair, I use these non damaging Wave Rage Jumbo rollers (they used to sell them on tenderheaded.com). I use lottabody setting lotion, Jamaican Mango and Lime Oil and Profectiv Healthy Ends for the set.

I think you should hold out I know it's tempting but if you decide to flatiron be sure to use a good heat protectant and when you're finished don't flat iron again till you relax. I will try to flat iron at least once before I relax in december but that's just to check my progess to see if there is anything I need to change in my regimen.

I'm one of the bad girls on LHCF. But my philosophy is heat every now n then CANNOT hurt your hair. The only thing that can damage your hair is habit, and likewise the only thing that can grow your hair is habit. If you are in the habit of babying your hair daily, and then once or twice a month u want to flatiron, then go for it...you can't damage your hair if you safely flatiron your hair. The same with a person who is in the habit of using damaging heat daily, then if they do something healthy just once a month, they it's not gonna heal their hair. hope this makes sense, but i'm sure you would know whats better for your hair than i do, i was just trying to make you feel better about wearing your hair down every once n a while. (and your curls are soooo very cute! You are a very pretty young lady)

Thanks for the advice, wadadligyal and MizaniMrs (and thanks for the compliment, too). :)

I flat ironed. I dont feel bald anymore! It's amazing how aidrying shrinks the hair up. My hair doesnt feel damaged from the flat iron; in fact, if feels extr thick. And Mizani, you're right, doing it every once in a while shouldnt hurt it. :yep:

Thank you! But do keep in mind that my head was titled back a little. I was trying to see what the picture looked like in the camera phone before I snapped. I am almost below the the bra-strap, though. I'm glad it is still growing in even.
