I just joined today after hearing my sister speak at length about the hair care tips here. I have become quite fascinated and have already ordered many of the products mentioned including a hair steamer, honeyquat, raw honey, pure shea butter etc. I have type 3C with a little 4a in the middle of my crown (but I've been using Cantu Shea leave in daily, and it's turning into 3c too). I've been natural all of my life other than a stint of chronic pressin' and curlin' from age 12 to 26. I'm well past hmmm, 35ish now. Currently my hair (curly) is a little past my shoulders when I use a little diffuser heat to dry it. Straight, it's BSL. I have never wrapped my hair at night or slept on a satin pillow. Basically, I wash, put in leave-in conditioner and put it in a wet, curly ponytail in the morning. Could I actually grow my hair to mid waist or waist length? Is this common?....or do only a few people reach their goals? I am so looking forward to getting my hair healthy.
TIA:wave:

Hi and welcome...yes, it's absolutely possible to grow your hair to whatever your goal is and even beyond. If your hair is already BSL, you're already longer than many peole here, so you're off to a great start. Several people here over the years have grown their hair to waist length and some even beyond that. You'll see tons of advice and products, but use your judgement keenly! ;)

How do you plan to use all of your new purchases?

I would suggest wrapping your hair up at night tho. It'll save on tangling and breakage. A silk or satiny pillow case is a nice investment too, esp. if you don't like wrapping your head. A good wide toothed comb should be high on your list. No use in babying your hair w/ product and then yanking it out/breaking it off.

You're already well on your way to longer lengths since you're currently at bsl. With a couple minor tweaks I'm sure you could retain more hair. You could put your hair in a bun, instead of leaving it out in a ponytail, so that your ends are protected. And, sleeping on a satin pillowcase or with a satin bonnet on will help protect your hair at night.

Here's a thread with a lot of the waist length ladies and their regimens. It may help you figure out what changes you can make.

My hair was never longer than BSL before I was your age or around your age. :yep:
Once I started to tweak my regimen it started growing (retaining length).
Welcome to the board!

Welcome! Your hair can reach new heights with just a few tweaks. It sounds like you already have a low manipulation regimen, so with some deep conditioning and protecting your ends, I am sure you can grow past BSL.

I haven't really come across but a few (meaning 2-3) people in the past year and a half I've been here who haven't seen SOME increase in retention/health, and the ones who didn't generally refused to let go of some habit that was stunting their progress (glue-in tracks, too much heat, not enough moisture, etc). With that said, since you are already at BSL, I definitely think you have a head start on many members (myself included) and I would not be surprised if you made an update thread in the next 6 months to a year letting us know how you got to (or past) WL.

Oh, and I see you buying up all the hair products...don't go broke trying to get there!

Welcome Lady!!!

Yes you can grow your hair as long as you want to.....it just takes commitment and effort and enjoyment!! :dance7:

Happy hair Growing !!!!

Welcome!
Sounds like you're off to a VERY good start! Many of us reach our hair goals and yes, reaching WL is very possible. I wouldn't exactly call it common, but if you put in the work, it's attainable.
My hair isn't WL, but I never thought it could even be this long.
HHG (happy hair growing)!
