Teaching your Kids!

Ladies, I was on another forum and was asked about how I teach my kids about the bible, christian living and Godly principles. I thought it was an excellent question.

First, I try to lead by example. I am faaaaaar from perfect, but when I make mistakes, I talk to them about it and clear the air.

Second, the DOLLAR STORE! I have a three year old. He has a childs bible, but the dollar store has a great selection of books based on bible stories. He loves them and we read together as well as learn about God!

Third, I always take my children to church with me. They sit with me (except for Sunday school hours) and we talk about things that are discussed. Last Sunday, my son said "momma, I want my own bible, I am tired of sharing yours!" I felt so good!:D At least I know I am leading him in the right direction.

Last and most important, WE PRAY! I don't know how this dropped in my spirit, but one morning, as I was dropping them off at school, I felt the urgent need to pray. I started doing this as our morning ritual. Now my son tells me if I forget "ma, you forgot prayer!" I love my babies so much, I want them to grow up knowing, worshiping and respecting God.

What do you ladies do to foster these kinds of principles/values in your children?

Sorry this post is so long!:(
I have way more I could say, but I want to hear what you think.

I applaude you! I love that you posted this.

I lead my babies by way of prayer. And now as adults, we are teaching my grand babies. (Glory to God! ) They know to pray at all times about everything...and I do mean everything!

The other day I received a call from one of my 'babies' (my grandson). He was having 'teacher' challenges in school. His teacher is a challenge to all of her students and we chose to pray for her instead of 'tearing her down'.

He shared with me that he received a 100 on his Science test the other day. But guess what he said? "...It was because we prayed." :yay: :yay:

Isn't God awesome? In the hearts of our children. What parent or grandparent wouldn't cherish this? God surely does. His heart is so full and happy with this.

Shame on the parents/grandparents who allows 'other' things into the tender minds of their children other than God.

For there is no substitute for who and whom God is. None!!!

I'm tired of people playing 'Jesus' games. Saying they are saved and then blatantly support the devil or join others in activities who do not have Jesus in their heart.

Jesus belongs as Lord in our lives is first and only! How dare we do other. It is He and He only who belongs in the hearts and minds of our children. We go unto God the Father for our lives and our needs, not the universe or other form of 'self-willed' ploys of the devil.

Anything that takes us away from having a pure and unadulterated relationship with God is exactly what the devil wants. My children are being taught, there is NO other God before our God. It's not a game, we either let Him into our lives or we don't.

There is no room for substitues...the idolatries of the world...the universe; we live by the Holy Spirit of God and nothing else.

Oooops! Sorry, Shimmie was preaching... :look: But I mean every word I said. ;)

Keep doing what you are doing with your children, Crlsweetie...and keep the doors shut to the enemy!

Ok, thanks so much for posting shimmie.

EX: My son was having a terrible time adjusting to a new school a couple of years ago. It just wasn't a good fit. He was flustered, knew the information on tests and assignments, but there were so many other things going on at the school, he was on his way to failing.
He came home and said "Ma, I don't know what to do. What do you do when you are confused and can't seem to get things right?" I said YOU PRAY! Just close your eyes, ask God to clear your thoughts so that you can focus on your task at hand. You don't have to utter a single word, God knows what's in Your heart! He smiled and said I understand!

See, this is what God loves. A heart like yours. And you know what's so special about this? It has nothing to do with being Black or White or anything in between. It's all about who we are in Christ Jesus.

You are making God so proud for when He looks down upon this earth, He asks each day, "Who's on the Lord's side?" Crrlsweetie, YOU are and so are your babies. YOU are on the Lord's side. And don't you ever allow anything or anyone to come between you and the Lord.

You see, YOU chose to not surcomb to the ways of the world. YOU chose to seek God and no other. YOU chose to teach your children likewise and to expect no other from no other than from God Himself.

Bless you, bless you, bless you and your babies. They will always be your babies no matter how tall and old they are. And you, Pretty Lady, you are still God's 'babygirl' and He hears what's going on inside of your heart, with each and every beat of it and every beat of His...God hears your heart.

Keep seeking Him and shut out everythng else there is that would try to come between you. He loves and you have made His Heart so proud just because YOU, chose...HIM and no other.

Praise God for you. We need more like you. Bring them out with your message. Bring them out and see what's it like to be like you and trusting Jesus with your all. Bring them out, angel. ;) They need to know.

Thank you Shimmie!
:rosebud:
:)

I will post more later when I get myself together. I am so filled with love right now I could burst! You are a special lady!

In addition to the above,
1)we have daily worship where we sing Praise songs and hymns , read a biblical story or a story on the reformers and have prayer. 15 minutes tops since our children are young

2) Our kids, (10 and 8) want to be baptized so we are doing their baptismal classes ourselves. 1x a week 30 minutes. We are teaching them why we believe what we beleive (from the Bible) so they can defend the faith for themselves.

3) On the way to school, DH has the boys memorize scripture. The can recite about 40 bible verses from memory. This has helped them improve their memory!!! Though they have always been good students, their minds are now sharper b/c of it. When something happens, we ask them "What does the Word say" or where can we go to the Word to give us comfort and they are able to tell us! 2 Timothy 2:15 says Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth

4) Have fun! We try to do all these things in a way that is biblical sound yet not tedious and boring for children.

Me and my children have daily pray together.

I read bible stories to them and we dicuss them.

I lead my example. Oftern times they'll say "Moma we need to do a quick pray for them".

We don't go to church often but we have bible study in the home several time a week.

We praise and worship GOD on a constant basis.

I bless them often and ask GOD to instill his word in their hearts.
