(I tagged people whose posts came up in my search for the keywords "victorian", "edwardian", etc)
So, I've been watching a lot of period dramas lately and I was reminded of how enamored I've always been with very old hairstyles from the Edwardian, Victorian, and Renaissance eras. Though the styles are primarily associated with Europeans, I love seeing these styles on kinky, coily and curly hair.
The great thing about a lot of these styles is that they're protective, while still being fly! And they're a special treat for waist length+ ladies because when it comes to these styles, the more hair, the better. Of course, we modern women don't have our own personal servants to do our hair nor are we wearing fancy dresses everyday but these styles can be adapted to our own sensibilities.
Let's fill this thread with images, illustrations, tutorials, videos and links to hairstyles that are authentic to, inspired by or evocative of hairdressing in the eras before the 1900s (the unofficial cutoff is 1930)!
Some background:
Renaissance
Tudor 1485-1558
Elizabethan 1558-1603
Hair Taping
Snood
Georgian
Regency 1811-1820
Victorian 1837-1901
(Late Victorian/Early Edwardian)
Edwardian 1901-1910
