Swimming and hair care

Does anyone have any hair care tips regarding swimming? I will be going to a water park for a weekend, and I am terrified of damaging my texlaxed hair! Those who swim and are chemically treated, what do you do to prevent possible damage??

Apply some sort of creamy conditioner or oil to your hair when you style it that day, then just prior to going into the pool, wet your hair with clean water. Since you mentioned, a water park, I doubt you'll want to wear a swim cap - if you do chose this option, then instead of wetting your hair, apply petroleum jelly or a conditioner around your hairline and put on the swim cap. This will help to prevent your hair from absorbing the chlorinated water.

After you're done with the pool, immediately wash your hair with shampoo to remove the chlorine and apply conditioner. Some people recommend a chelating shampoo, but I've found that any clear, SLS based shampoo does the trick. This is the most important step so even if you don't do anything else, make sure that you wash your hair as soon as you can after being in chlorinated water.

ETA this advice also applies to salt water for those who go to the beach.

Number one: enjoy yourself on that day and forget ur hair!
I swim quite a bit, in pools, ocean, lakes etc. I am relaxed.

I agree with the above post, that before you go put conditioner on ur hair to coat it so that ur hair soaks up less chlorine. Don't do a lot of oil/ grease coz it'll just melt in the sun and drip everywhere and down your neck and irritate you. As soon as you get home, shampoo your hair with a swimmer's shampoo designed to take out the chlorine and DC as usual. I don't want to recommend a particular brand of swimmer's shampoo coz I haven't tried any of the new/ improved brands. But Aubrey's Organics has one, and there's a few sulfate free ones like Ion, but I haven't tried them yet though.

Enjoy urself, take a lot of pictures, and wear sunscreen.

I use Sauve Kids 2 in 1 swimmer's shampoo/condish. It was the cheapest one at the store.

I have been using it for the past month and a half after my weekly aqua aerobics class and it is amazing. My hair (4a) is so moisturized after I don't even really need a leave in or oils. Just don't get it in your eyes because it will sting. HTH!
