I am contemplating this also, I will try out rollersetting for a while, and if this doesn't work, I may have no choice...

yea has decreased the amount i manipulate my hair drastically...it blends better and for longer ...i did it myself with no problems ... I did a protein treatment today. I will touch up in 8 weeks at the least

* i still have a serious case of hand in fro disease. i'm certain i'm tangling up my hair and slowing down my progress.

* therefore, protective styles will be my best friend for quite a while. i've scheduled a 2-3 day break in july 09 when i graduate as i want to straighten for that day. i believe i should be past apl at that time :yay:. it'll be about 17/18 months since i trimmed so i will probably get one too.

* learnt how to do my own kinky twists with extensions so the next step is human hair braids! i believe i can do them. this has saved a ton a ton of money.

* next summer: as aside from flat-ironing once in 09, i will continue protective styling. if i can hold out, i will be protective styling my way to waist length non-stop (with 1-3 day breaks in between). i'm not sure how realistic that is so i will be trying for at least august 09 instead.

I learned that I have to take better care of my hair in the summer. In the winter it's easy because when I go out I always have a hat on and my hair doesn't blow in the wind. But mostly I learned that in the summer I have to

1. Deep condition with moisturizing conditioner often
2. Do a hot oil treatment on a regular basis
3. and wash more often

I have learned that frequent CO washing does not work for me. I will have to wash and deep condition 2-3 a week.... My hair also grows faster in the winter so I will have to be more disciplined about putting my hair up this winter....

Well.. I didn't really have a summer here in London, we struggled to have 1 week of consecutive sun, But I did learn some things

What works better for your hair????
I needed to keep up with my protein conditioners for strenght and I discovered Qhemet heavy olive and amla cream - No more dryness for my 4b hair

Are you gonna miss co-washing????(I know I am)
I didn't cw often

How are you gonna maintain your hair until next summer????
Wash, rollerset and worn up till BSL

I've learned that my hair wants to be left alone 95% of the time. Meaning it does not want to be styled, pulled, greased, teased or combed.

It does like to be rod set or cornrowed only because it knows that I am not going to be able to mess with it with these styles for at least 5-7 days on end.

When I listen to my hair and take care of it 90% from the inside out and 10% from the outside, it flourishes. Right now I am going to keep up my rod sets weekly and my cornrows without putting anything on my scalp to clog it up. No essential oils or non of that...as long as i am taking my evening primrose oil, fish oils and phyto... my scalp produces enough oil.
Me learning this has reduced the amount of acne pimples on my face from over oiling.

My hair loves natural leave in conditioners and hates products that make it hard and sticky. So, I am always picking up different types of leave in conditioners that i can use to set my rods with.

Summer is almost over and what have you learned this summer about your hair???----That i needed to re-apply moisturizer to my dry hair twice daily for it to STAY moisturized.Maybe its best i stay in braids during summertime? Also that i don't need heat as much as i thought i did.

What works better for your hair????----Wen is my new buddy, with occasional protein.Air drying was a breeze this summer:yep:

Are you gonna miss co-washing????(I know I am)----Yes.Especially now that i'm back in braids. They take forever to dry during winter,so i'm gonna have to fall back(slightly) on the co-washing.

How are you gonna maintain your hair until next summer ????----not 100% sure about this yet...will see.Braids are cool, but i still need to figure out what to do when i take my hair down.I guess what i'm doing is okay, but buns make my ends dry:ohwell::perplexed.I don't know what i'm doing wrong, but them do.

answers above

I have learned that I actually have hair and its Long. I had been wearing braids and weaves for the past 10 years and I finally let it go. And I am pleasantly pleased.

I plan to just shampoo ever 5-7 days and dc when I shampoo and do protein treatments, and braidouts. I want healthy BSL by December 08.
