And for today's disturbing news: man cooks girlfriend? No warning, I don't even care whats in the thread thats the first thing on my page when I open off topic

No, this needs to be considered because I don't even frequent the OT sometimes because of what the topics may be. This is the reason I try to stay out of ET also.
I think there should also be some type of block, where you can block certain people's signatures. :yep:

Warning....

Another disturbing news title, just no trigger warning or nothing? HIV positive- Raped- 14- 2 year old???

It's no different than watching the evening news or reading a newspaper. There will be some disturbing things. It's the news. People who want to avoid the possibility of seeing a disturbing news title should just avoid the forum...And news television programs... And newspapers... And the Internet... And everyday conversations... Because disturbing things happen & you're bound to hear about some of them. That's life.

Sent from my iPhone.

But even on the news they warn you before they report something disturbing...here there are no filters, no warnings!

Wonderful title about a 3 year old being beaten and hung or something like that...right before bed time, thanks a lot.

So I woke up this morning, made a nice cup of tea, sat down to my computer and ...

"3 year old beaten to death will hanging upside down"

Really?!:nono:

Or maybe we could have a way to hide titles with certain keywords, or filter them out because even if there was a sub forum people on the app would still see these threads.

I thought it was stated a while ago there would be no new subforms. This thread was started two years ago, it looks like the answer was already given.

I'd almost forgotten about this thread. Thanks to those who've chimed in. There continue to be disturbing titles. The solution to this doesn't necessarily need to be a subforum, maybe just require that people use warnings in the title.

That could work but it would be pointless to have a thread styled as such..."TRIGGER::: Mom uses vibrator on baby"

:nono: But if it's just "TRIGGER: Disturbing news" or something like that I think that work fine. I know not to hover over those thread titles and I wouldn't have the title of the thread being a an issue in itself.

I'm on some other forums and members have to give the "trigger warning" and a vague title. I do think a general hint is OK because not everything upsets everyone. I can't deal with rape and severe child abuse, but some other things are OK. Examples:

"TRIGGER WARNING: 3 year old killed (severe abuse)"

"TRIGGER WARNING: Man murders wife and put her body..."

"TRIGGER WARNING: Teen cyber-bulling leads to death"

People can be made to adhere to this by having their posts deleted if they do not comply. Mods shouldn't even waste their time trying to change the title. Folks will learn.

I don't like to be hit with such disturbing info. A sec is all it takes to process the title. I'd be ok with some type of trigger warning. Others don't realize the psychological and metaphysical impact of this type of "news."

Why not have a News sub forum? I see this request has been made repeatedly for a few years now. Is there a legitimate reason it has been ignored? Is a separate Pet forum more necessary than a forum for all the sick occurrences people are calling "news"?

My definition of "news" is "noteworthy or educational information about recent or important events." I already know there are sick people in the world. I don't need to see graphic confirmation of this fact while I'm eating my Cheerios and preparing for the day. That headline about the baby was beyond disturbing. Why not give the tragedy porn aficionados their own spot?
