Well from what I heard Yes, vitamins don't really work if for example all you eat is unhealthy food. You should eat a balanced diet and in addition take the vitamins.
I don't know anything about aminos, but by the way I don't think that this is a stupid question at all.

I heard a balanced diet would enhance the performance of vitamins also.
i definitely think vitamins are more effective in conjunction with healthy eating. i think i wasted money trying to make my hair grow faster. the vitamins i was taking only made up for what my diet was lacking. they didn't help with the growth rate. now that my diet has improved substantially, so has my growth rate.
