Hi everybody!

I am happy because I just ended a 6 mo. stretch and relaxed on Friday. I retained almost 100% of my length and gained some thickness but.... my hair still has a very strong relaxer smell to it and I am worried.

I go to a salon, the same trusted stylist I always go to. My hair texture doesn't feel any different in a bad way, I don't feel any residue, and I haven't shed hairs or had breakage at all (it may be too soon to tell?). I shampooed & DC tonight and my hair STILL has that awful smell. Am I crazy? Should I be worried and run out & buy neutralizing shampoo and wash it a couple of times at home? Or do you think its just that I'm not used to the chemical smell...I mean...it has been six months...:look:

Please chime in w/ advice~ I don't want to lose all my progress due to chemicals left on my hair/scalp!

I would definitely neutralize and moisturize the hair, just in case.

I would too. Can you get a chelating shampoo like Mizani's or run apple cider vinegar rinse through?

I also recommend shampooing with a neutralizing shampoo. I would let it sit in my hair for about 10 minutes, rinse and repeat to be safe.

Thanks ladies! I will be picking up some neutralizing shampoo after work tomorrow. I did a medium protein treatment tonight before my moisture DC....if I follow up tomorrow w/ a wash(or two) with neutralizing shampoo do you think it will dry my hair out excessively? I will follow with another moisture DC of course but I am prone to dryness after a relaxer and I have fine hair. TIA
