Dang, four months, three months??? I thought stretching mine to 7 weeks was an accomplishment. I need more willpower. Well, Ballet Bun, if you start the challenge, I'll join. If there is already one, ya'll let me know. Cause I seriously need to learn to space out my touch ups.
[/ QUOTE ] lol pp..i am the same way...i am at 6 wks and im goin in the morning to relax, i thought i could do it, but my hair is breaking terribly, and ima run not walk to the salon early!! but i do envy u ladies who can go for a lengh of time...
Im at week 15(transitioning). CO washes (concentrate conditoner on roots), profectiv roothealth and olive oil on the roots has helped to soften the new growth. The hairstyles that have helped me so far are cornrows/braid outs. Also trimming ends helps with tangles.
myhairsos, have you used Motions relaxer before this? I'm asking because to the best of my knowledge, the neutralizing shampoo is not color-coded... meaning the suds would be white regardless of relaxer content in your hair. But if you've experienced differently with previous use of the relaxer, I'd like to know that, too.

16 wks? Oh Lawd. Well Im in. My last touch up was Nov. 7 & 9 (did the half and half method). So my next touch up will be the first week of March 2004. Well, Im going to order my garlic shampoo right now! Good luck everybody.

PerfectPeace .... fess up! Where are you ordering your Garlic shampoo from?
JRW ... of course you can still join. The more the merrier.
Well my next relaxer would be Feb. 13, 04 which would be 3 months, but if we're trying for 4 months then it would be March 13, 04. Count me in
I use Profectiv's Breakfree and Megagrowth and I also wash 2x a week and I condition wash 2x a week. When do we report in? Oh before I forget my last relaxer was Nov. 13, 03.

I thought the same way until l i tried the Cornrows/braid out combo. I wear my hair in cornrows and braid/twist out. My own hair is cornrowed in the front to the crown area. The rest is loose and i braid or twist it and the wear a braid/twist out. I prefer this style to braids, i can do my CO washes easier.
I'm in. My last relaxer was 7th October and I'm going to try to wait at least 4 months before I touch up.
Because of the msm my new growth is really growing in soft
so I hope I won't be experiencing much breakage.
To help the new growth stay soft I spritz my hair everyday with water, put S curl on and then some kind of oil.
Works for me.
Hi! Just a quick question. Does it matter what hair type you have? Meaning for better success at stretching relaxer time out? I know someone who normally goes 6 mos, but doesn't know her hair type. Plus, she relaxes just enough to loosen the curl pattern and have an easier comb-out. Would this count?

I have cornrows done with my own hair up to the crown area. Then the other half is left loose. I do 10-12 braids or bantu knots on the loose hair then sleep with them. Next morning i take out the braids or knots and just finger comb.
i am a new member. well not new but i finally registered. want to say hi to all the ladies. i want in i am on week 8. i want to go 4 mos and give my poor 4b hair a much needed break.
I am definitely with this, when I tried to transition I stretched it to 16 weeks before, although I changed my mind because of the breakage, my hairline and nape of my neck thanked me. Then when I relaxed again, I left my nape alone and it started getting longer and prettier (I was shocked). Right now my nape hairs are 4 1/2 inches long, and now Im convinced that it started because of my transition attempt. Now, I decided to go that long always, without relaxing. I am preventing breakage now because of the new things I learned and use. Now I am 11 weeks and everything is fine, no breakage *thank you Surge and sheabutter/olive oil* I planned to relax in my 16th week. But I might stretch it to 20 (an extra month) I love watching my new growth coming along all while giving my hair a longer rest from chemicals.
Lol at the name of this challenge I am trying to stretch my relaxer until 12 weeks this time. The last time I waited a little over 10 weeks, which was the longest I'd waited in a long time. With the help of msm it looks like I will definitely reach my goal, because I'm already over 5 weeks post-relaxer and can barely tell the difference between my newgrowth and the previously relaxed hair.
Good ideal Ballet Bun..count me in. My last relaxer was 10/29/03. I just notice my lower crown area is underprocessed post my last relaxer but I will try to hang in as long as I can. My goal is 16 wks or more. I'm also a participant of the "Bun Challenge". Happy SORC everyone!
Ballet Bun, I LOVE your hair and your Ballet pictures!! I dance too.........not ballet, more modern and swing, but I love your pics!! Very pretty! And congratulations on your wedding! I'm going to 10 weeks. I'm like PerfectPeace. I usually MUST relax every 5-6 weeks, but thanks to all the tips I've learned here I think I can go to 10 weeks. That will put me right before Christmas (Dec. 23rd) and right before New Year's and my little son's B-day party and I want to look "right" for all these occassions. I promise I'll join the next challenge though! Once I get out of the holiday's I'll be ready for the Challenge!! If you guys want a great tip for stretching your relaxer though, RUN out and buy some Sta-Sof-Fro!!! This stuff is pure Miracle Juice!!!! It softens so well it ought to be illegal!!
Wow, I'm in. I normally wait 10 - 12 weeks. I just relaxed this past weekend (Nov 15) after nine weeks, one of my shortest times, didn't want to have a puffy head for the holidays. I wish I wouldn't have done it now. I can see how one can overprocess their hair by relaxing so soon.
I'm currently on my 4th month. It's a challenge but my hair is loving it. Ultra Sheen finishing lotion has been wonderful throughout the process. However, I must admit that since it's been four months, I blowdry because it's a mess without it. I figure like this though, heat is better than the chemicals in a relaxer. Once I relax though I'll go back to not blowdrying. It's a tradeoff.
I agree with you for me to keep up with this challenge I have to use heat on my roots or I will start having breakage, but like you said heat is better than the chemicals.
MY STRATEGIES FOR HOLDING THE TOUCH-UP AT BAY:
[*]I will be going to Luisa's every two-three weeks for a rollerset and blow out.
[*]I will be using a light protein conditioner w/ every wash (Elucence EMRT)
[*] I will rollerset my own hair when I wash once a week or use heat on my roots.
[*]I will deep condition on every wash
Also, I bought Surge Friday from a brand new Beauty Supply at Arundel Mills Mall. Saturday was my first day using the product and I hope that in two weeks I'll be able to notice a dramatic difference in my hair like it says on the bottle.
I am starting a new regime starting this week as well. Here goes:
Root-wash every week with Elucence MB Shampoo.
Use Elucence EMRT Conditioner for 10 min w/ heat.
Use Keracare Humecto for 20 minutes (10 min w/ heat 10 min w/o)
Use At One With Nature Botanical Reconstructor for 5 min no heat
Rollerset my hair on large purple rollers (use Elucence MB conditioner mixed with water as setting agent)
I'm in so many challenges....I'm gonna have to make me a calendar.
You know I can't pass this one up though. I know when I can do this, that my hair is really gonna take off. Plus I'm safe 'cuz we're not going anywhere for the holidays. My last relaxer was 11/8/03, It was very underprocessed; 'cuz its back thick already and I just started the Surge challenge on 11/15/03 so you know I'm gonna be struggling. But I'm gonna try to hold it down. I last relaxed early September, so 8 weeks or so was something I'd never done. But surely with all the good tips I can go 10 or 12 weeks easily. I"M IN GIRL!
