Stop Calling me Macy Gray!!

lol this thread was funny. I'm pretty sure people have brought up the Jill Scott comparison because of my skin tone, weight and hair. I honestly don't mind except I feel it's mostly the weight aspect lol. My brother said my hair looked like "Corrine Bailey" [Rae] once and I thought he said "Corn Baby" so now whenever i wear my hair in big curls or twist outs, he calls me Corn Baby. I call him Corbin Bleu.

I don't think you're overreacting. I think it's borderline racist when people call you someone just because you have natural hair. You clearly look nothing like Macy Gray from your avatar.

This thread made me :giggle:

Just a couple of days ago, someone called me Michelle Obama while I was waiting on line at CVS. He claimed I looked like her. Well, we're both tall, athletic looking, and that day my hair was pressed. I said Thank You and kept it moving.

Ooohhh...girl, you're really good with insults :giggle: :lachen:

Usually when people say I look like a celeb with my hair, I just tell them, "Thanks, but I was trying to go for the RachelRegina look," lol

LOL!!! Girl, what was worse was that by the end of the week, I had everyone else calling her Khloe K :lachen:

Bet she won't try that 'You look exactly like some random black girl schlick just because you're a black girl' thang again on me. :lachen:

My dad calls me Angela Davis which doesn't bother me cuz I love her hair AND what she stands for. As for the ones that DO bother me... I've been called Macy Gray, Sideshow Bob, chia pet, and Lady of Rage. I also don't like when people (read: white people) give me nicknames like Puff or Poof. I don't call you Strings or make a big deal about your hair so don't do it to mine either. It's just hair, calm down.

heyyyyyy.....Macy Gray is not bad looking....she can't sing but she's not ugly...:look:

i've been called Lauryn Hill :scratchch, foxy brown:nono:, erykah badu:ohwell:, kelly rowland :perplexed

If i wear a wash n go i've been called "jheri juice" :swearing:

If i wear a twist out i'm told i have a fro??? when i DO NOT have a fro... :angry2:

If i wear it in twists i'm a rasta with dreads...:whyme:

if i wear it in a bun on top of my head, they wanna know what happened to my hair, and why am i not wearing my hair out....:hammer:

and if i flat iron it, they wanna know what happened to my FRO!!! :alcoholic

oh oh oh and get this....the DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES from my company would always come up to me and say..."Now is THIS also your real hair??"

every single time she saw me she would say this...

HUH??????????

:killlurk:

in conclusion, ignorance is bliss.

:fishslap:

Disclaimer: I am not a role model

When people like to call me by the name of some random black celebrity just because I have the same hair or even just the same skin tone, I do the same thing to them and walk away while they look confused about what has just happened.

White girl with stringy dyed blond hair: Hey Tracy Chapman!
Me: Hey Courtney Love!
White girl with stringy dyed blond hair: :perplexed
Me:  *walks away*

^This! I was thinking you could also tell them they are a dead ringer for Tori Spelling, Rosie O'donell, Kathy Griffith, and etc. They will get the point then.:lachen:

I've been called Macy Gray too as well as Lauren Hill.

I went to a picnic (Old School Picnic for you Chicagoans) I had my hair in a puff. As I walked by a group of men one of them said, "I suddenly have a taste for pineapple." I gave him the stank eye but I laughed on the inside. It was kinda funny.
Lol

Y'all need to say... Oh thank YOU!!!;! She is soooo beautiful!!!!! Some people call you these women because it's a compliment... Others because they are ignorant...So responding with a big THANK YOU!..( and going overboard with it) Thanks the people that mean well, and kicks the people that don't mean well in the nuts!... People used to call me Pam Grier when I wore my afro...black and white. Let me tell you this... If you respond with anger, They are happy inside. Believe that!!!
