Spinoff "Why would one accept a common law marriage?"

I have read quite a few threads around here with people being together for x amount of years. Some people are quick to chime in, with "I guess you two are commom law" or some sorta variation of that. They wanna know that state and look it up and say well it is legal or not legal in said state.

My question is why is that acceptable? Why should one accept commom law?

I guess the real question is why in the world would anyone really do it that way?
YES, that is the gist of what I was trying to get to?

The also still get all the same legal benefits of Marriage if the state they are in recongizes it

so they probably feel like 'why get married' they have all the same legal rights as a married couple

I wonder if anyone will have a logical answer :spinning::spinning:

I don't think it's acceptable. Most men ask about common law after a few years of living together to AVOID being legally considered married.

My dad called me up after he lived with one of his various fiancé's for many years. Common law marriage is not recognized in his state but someone clearly put the thought into his head that he may have been married due to the length of time he lived with that particular woman.

why?

-That's all they want.
-That's all they are being offered. (I think it's more of this but I don't know)

Some People place no value or honor on the Marriage Union

So its acceptable to them

I think it's a lifestyle choice, like having children, every one doesn'thave those things on their priority list. I don't think anything is wrong with that,

I do believe that it's the best some can get, but others choose it and like it.

True some could/do make a conscious decision to not get married
