I'm a constant comber as well. I can't help it. I'm tryna stop...this manipulation is baaaaad.

you can't be as bad as i was in highschool. i used to comb every period sometimes during and before and after lunch. that's about 12 times in like 8 hours.

- I use my flat-iron 2 times a week when I shampoo my hair(I do air-dry though)

-I don't moisturize daily. My leave-in and deep conditioning tends to keep me moisturized for days at a time.

-I comb my hair several times a day.

-SistaSlick, At home, I have a comb with a tooth missing, as well. :ohwell: I LOVE that comb. It is all the way on one end so i just use the other end of it to comb with. The one in my purse has no missing teeth though:)

-Since using henna, I never use protein. (except after a relaxer)

-I lather the shampoo up several times. :look:

Honestly ladies, since I have found a really good cone/protein free moisturizer for my hair, I noticed that I get no breakage and my new growth is easier to manage. I think maintainign true moisture and strength helps your hair to deal with me and all the things I do to it.

Me too!!!!!!! I used to carry the rattail combs, with the rattail facing up in my back pocket!!:lachen:

  1. I use grease on my scalp every other night
  2. I wrap my hair every night with a brush
  3. I play in my hair daily, it is a nervous habit
  4. I relax every 6 to 8 weeks
  5. I comb my relaxer through my roots
  6. I comb my hair everyday
  7. I don't where protective styles
I know, I know, but my hair is growing, it has a lot of bounce, and it is very healthy now(I think:confused: ).

I know sometimes I just want to :spank: myself..........

Sometimes when I comb or style my hair when I get to the ends I will rip.....yes I said rip the ends off
I'm natural and I have really coily/curly hair and it knots so easily that I get frustrated and just rip them out
I have been trying to stop

The last time I trimmed, I trimmed with bad scissors cause I didnt want to look for the good ones

I'm trying to limit the no-no's. But it's hard.

I go to bed with nothing on my head.
I use shampoo 3-4 times a week.
I manipulate my hair way too much -- I have hand in hair disease and I need to stop.

Ok here goes....
1. I use my flat iron (CHI-no temp control) several times a week....since my hair is uneven when i unwrap it there's always a hair out of place or bent and i can't resist fixing it and i blowdry cuz airdryin takes forever on my thick hair and i'm in school so i need time to flatiron.
2. I wrap my hair every day and have been for years:ohwell:
3. I comb my hair everyday...in the morning when i unwrap it, through out the day when it gets tangled...and at night when wrapping it again.
4. I pick at my split ends with my fingers...i've been doin this for years and I cant seem to stop...I see them out the corner of my eye and i just have to break them off:wallbash:
5. When I'm layin in my bed watching tv I forget to wrap my hair up or put my satin bonnet on and i dont have satin pillow cases(i'm actually doin that now)
6. I lather my shampoo at least twice (didn't know this was a problem):D
7. I NEVER wear protective styles and I wear my hair down everyday. (I've probably worn a ponytail 3 times since 8th grade and I'm going to be 20 in May.
8. I dont really pay attention if theres Cones in a product....i actually dont even know what they do and i dont kno if I care:confused:
9. When I was home I went to the stylist every 2 weeks and I never washed in between or moisturized...just wrapped and combed

Wow, i didnt realize i was doin so much wrong......:perplexed

SAME HERE!!!!    I guess that makes it ok for us then.

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee me some cones!!!!! Even use my regular old conditioner as a leave-in because it is packed with cones.

Hence, I clarify every time I shampoo

and yes, the kid, lathers, rinses and REPEATs.

I got off my combing and heat addiction though. I now can get my hair soft, curly, and moisturized without any heat OR rollers! Amen! If I had known 10 years ago how to do that then, I would have been the shiz-nit in college!:p

1) I wash and rinse TWICE
2) I don't use a satin pillowcase. It feels weird against my face.
3) Cones are my friends. Lots and lots of cones.
4) I never detangle in the shower because I only detangle once a week and it takes LOTS of time.
5) I clarify a lot.
6) I wear my hair down every single day. I never wear protective styles.
7) I leave DT in my hair overnite. Every time.
8) I leave conditioner in my hair every day. All day and night.
9) I let children play in my hair.
10) I will use ANY scissors to cut a split end. No scissors? I will use my nails to slice it.

wow, i dont feel so bad afterall.

i will go into my list
1. I clarify with ACV alot
2. I have a HORRIBLE hand in hair disease and i constantly pick at my split ends and rip them off :(
3. I put oil directly on my scalp
4. I NEVER wear protective styles I tried for a minute but jus ended up wearing it down again.
5. sometimes i dont wrap my hair up at night i jus wear it out and DOWN
6. sometimes i also dont moisturize my hair at night jus pass out with it down
7. I love Cones

-My hair loves cones in conditioners, so ALL of my conditioners are cone packed.

-She enjoys grease for twists and braids and will actually behave better and stay longer if I use say Hollywood Beauty Castor Oil over my beloved Avocado Butter.

- No washing for a good three weeks.

The funny thing about all these "no-no's" is that everyone's hair is thriving despite the taboos the hair-board world has put together. In our hastiness to define black hair ,I think many women got too caught up in a dogma that doesn't need to be there. Just do what works for you and your hair.

I WASH MY HAIR IN THE KITCHEN SINK - - THE "SHOWER" ROUTINE WOULD JUST BE A WASTE OF WATER AND TOO MUCH TIME!

I thought this would be fun. What are some hairboard no-nos that you do, purposely? I thought about this in another thread.

I'll start:

I use grease on my ends after washing-I love it and I will not let it go, EVER.

I comb my hair with a small-toothed rattail comb, SECTION BY SECTION (some of yall are cringing right now) before I flat iron it. It makes it come out a lot smoother and more straight!

When I wear my hair flat-ironed. I comb it about 4-5 times a day. If not it will tangle and look stringy which me no likey, and I have no plans on stopping.

When I flat-iron, I swipe about 2-4 times per section!! I figure, I am already doing a no-no by flat-ironing, atleast I'mma make it look good. I like my hair BONE straight when I flat iron-frizz is NOT okay by me.

I comb my hair from the roots TO the ends. I don't like doing it the other way, it feels wrong and like it doesn't detangle properly.

Your turn.

I read your note and thought "that little rat!!" doing all of this to her hair!!
:lachen: You're too much.

I have to do this now too. To attempt to wash my hair when I shower would take me longer than it does to actually wash my ***.

I also prefer the extendable hose attachment to having to tilt my head back

What moisturizer would this happen to be?

I have done both of these. I "rip" the knots of the ends of my hair most of the time...because they are so annoying. Recently, I decided to cut the tangles out of a section of my hair but I couldn't find the "good" scissors so I used regular dull scissors (I did look for them)...I could tell they weren't good for the hair because at first it wouldn't cut the hair at all...the scissors just slid through the hair without cutting it. :look: Eventually, I was able to use them...but afterwards, I decided to order a better pair of scissors (since the "good" scissors are lost) so I won't be using regular, dull scissors again. As far as the knots...um I probably won't stop "ripping" or breaking them off.

I love this thread!

It is a good reminder that we all follow guidelines, make our own rules and modify our behavior where we feel we need to. ...that everything doesn't work for everybody and that we are all perfectly, imperfect and beautiful individuals.

Love you guys!

Well, this is an interesting one!

I use grease on my scalp.
Comb from the ends to the scalp when wet.
Sleep in rollers ocassionally.
Moisturize all my hair, not just my ends.

I know not all of these are necessary no-no's but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. My hair is still growing and appears healthy so it can't be that bad.
