Hi CaramelHonee
wave.gif
Your avatar is cute! When I mentioned a few months ago about how I often do pin curls (and how I love them), and posted how I did it, you also had some very helpful information on how you make pin curls.
smile.gif

I think SouthernGirl might be doing them while her hair is "damp" (almost dry)... I use this method as well as with my hair dry, and I tend to get more defined curls when my hair is almost dry. When I prefer a more loose curl, I make pin curls on my dry hair.

Hey BoT

(can u bump that thread for me please)

i know how to do the dry pin curls but not the wet ones... I can't even IMAGINE doing it and it coming out as nice as SG's does

Hey Girlie,

Now that I have come down from cloud a billion from last night's proposal, I have uploaded step by step pix!!! Take a look on my Fotki site. Once you see them, you should be all set! I've done them on my hair dry, but I prefer to do it when it's partially wet (about 1/2 way) because I get a much nicer look when I take them down.

Anyhoo, take a look and tell me whatcha think and if you have questions.

Thanks Shatani!!!

I've worn them to the grocery store and have gotten all sorts of crazy looks but I think they're cute

If those folks at the grocery store could see the end results, they would also be sporting pincurls.

lol, yeah what she said AND its better than wearing rollers to the store instead!

Oh wow SG that is so pretty. Thanks for sharing, I will definitely be using that method when I get enough hair.

Sometimes we gotta make some sacrifices for beauty. Since I am trying very hard to not use any heat either, I will try this style.

I almost added to my post that at least I'm not sporting those big magnetic rollers or plastic curl caps (the colored ones) to the grocery store, but didn't want to offend anyone who might do this occasionally

Bumping basically resurrects a thread so that someone can see it. My ? is do you use anything to keep your curls. For me when I do a braid out or pin curls my hair looks nice but during the day its not as defined.

SG, if u do decide to wear rollers to the store, make sure u wear all different colors for the full affect! LOL
smile.gif

I did try the pin curls today, but I have BIG hair going on. It frizzed even as I was trying to style it, so I fluffed it all out so it looks like a teased fro...LOL. Actually it looks kinda cute but it wasnt the look I was going for!

Oh well practice makes perfect, right?? Now I have to wash my hair so I can start over....LOL.

Hey Kisz4tj- Thanks 4 the clarification about bumping. Great question RE: maintaining the curl. I'm not a setting lotion fan but you can spray a little on right before you twist the knot, and/or after the knot has been twisted and secured. When you take them down the curls should be a little more defined and last a bit longer. I have a satin pillowcase so the style stays in tact for a few days. I've never left my hair like this more than 3 days because I'm into the bun thing for everday. Hope this helps!!!

smile.gif
Leslie: I'll definitely go to the store next time w/the multi-colored rollers!!! LOL
Also, I;m sorry it didn't come out the way you wanted
frown.gif
!!! If it means anything, it took me a while to get it down to a science. I will tell you that early on when I'd get the big hair thing, it was because I let the hair dry too much before twisting the knots. That's the hard part- that, and knowing exactly when to take those suckers down. Mine frizzes a bit too, but when I add a small amount of oil or Salerm, it weighs it down and makes it a lot more tame-looking. If you're already used to using a light setting lotion, maybe try a bit of that instead of the water.

Please keep trying! You'll get it the way you want it soon

SG,
I think I know what I did wrong, since u mentioned it might have been too dry. I started with completely dry hair and just sprayed it a little with water, put on some moisturizer and did it. I will try again on 1/2 dry hair! That will be my project for tonight...

...and if I ever get it to look halfway decent Ill post pics! I have a new phony pony I want to put in my album anyway--its a flip style thats reversible...my back to school style for busy weeks!

Southerngirl, thanks for posting your steps. I tried this last night on my twists -- for a different and fuller look -- and it turned out very nice. I can't wait to try it on my pressed hair!

My hair came out a huge soft poof of medusa curls. Maybe my hair's not long enough? Or maybe the twists were too tight?? My 70% air dried relaxed hair is not straight at all, it's wavy, so I guess this technique won't work for me. Oh well, I'm back to my flexi rod curls for now.
