:( Okay, so I've been reading everything on here for like two weeks and, I'm beginning to feel very overwhelmed. There are so many products and methods! I'm just lost at this point. SO, I would like to request a hair buddy!!!!!!!!! I need someone willing to work with me and help me figure out what to do to get my hair to grow. I have 4a type hair. Its pretty oily, but relaxed, so my scalp gets buildup easily while my ends are usually a bit dry. As a result, I need to wash it every couple of days. It grows fast when its happy and breaks like HELL when its angry! It's a little bit shorter than what on my pic. Like a 1/2 inch. I recently cut it, and the length is driving me crazy! I need it to GROW. I'm not used to short hair. Shoulder length is the shortest I can happily deal with. So, if ANYONE is willing to help me get my hair growin and flowin, PLEASE be my buddy! :D It's pretty healthy right now, but it won't be for long if I don't begin some sort of regimen.

Waiting to be rescued,

Jane'ra :(

Hi and Welcome! Well congrats on having healthy hair and ends. The best thing you can do from this point is eliminate ALL direct heat to those new clipped ends, this will help you retain more.

Since you said you get lots of build-up you should be using a Clarifying poo first off. I'd also recommend deep conditioning weekly and making sure you use products that have protein and moisture.

Also start taking vitamins and drinking plenty of water, this just reinforces healthier hair and sometimes speedier growth from the inside in conjuction with what you do on the outside. You can try drinking a protein shake everyday also.

There are also sulfur based oils Boundless Tresses www.growthspecifics.com that have helped some experience speedier growth.

That's about all I have. The most important thing though, is retaining that length, keeping those ends healthy and not putting any direct heat.

HTH and Good Luck!

Hi janeera & welcome.

I think SVelvet's suggestions are very good ones.
Try not to be too overwhelmed. The trick is...to read and learn and do some trial and error. Don't start buying up everything you read about in here? You'll go broke.

Certain methods will work better for you and your growth journey. It sounds like you are at a great starting point with freshly clipped ends and a hairstyle that's not rubbing on your clothes.

Send my a PM whenever you have questions. I'll be a buddy to you. If you'll have me. You will find that the ladies in here are active and very helpful. You ccan PM questions to anyone you will usually get a response within 24 hours.
Sometimes weekends are slower especailly now that it's springtime and we've all got cookouts to go to.

Yeah the other day I actually sat down with a notebook and just read thru as people described their hair. When they seemed to have hair like mine, I worte down what they said they used. LOL. I have a little list of things I want to get to see if I get the same results.

Other than that I am totally : stars : about all there is out there!

Welcome Janeera! :) I don't know much about styling short hair, but we have the same hair type so i can try to help with anything else if you need it. I'm a newbie as well, but I've been at this for about 5 weeks so I feel like I've learned a little something. like someone already stated, most people are helpful if you pm them, and you'll usually get at least a couple of good responses to any thread posted.

Yes, the vast amount of info in the threads can be overwhelming at first, but the key is finding a regimen that works best for you. Everything is not for everyone so it may take you a while to find your perfect match, but you definitely can. HYH

Welcome!

I agree with what everyone has said. All the product recommendations are EXTREMELY overwhelming.

I would also second the clarifying shampoo to clean your scalp and then get a good deep conditioner. I believe that is one of the most important things you need. Everything else can fall into place.

Because your ends were just cut your at the perfect starting point to keep them healthy.

You're gonna have to experiment to find what your hair likes. Start slow. Go with the easy stuff first. Stuff that you probably should be doin' anyway (i.e, drinking enough water and taking a multivitamin).

There are no guarantees what works for someone else will work for you, but find your hair twin and see what's working for her.

VWVixxen's hair loves all the same things my loves but Letita is my official hair twin. I just follow them around seeing what's working and what's not. :yep:

Thank you all sooooo much. I feel a little better knowing I'm not alone in this! : ) I'll definitely keep in touch and try to find my hair twin/buddy! Ya'll are awesome!

Welcome, welcome! Congrats on starting your hair journey!

I know how you feel... I still feel lost sometimes and I've been trying to get my hair together for a year now! :)

I think the advice about starting with vitamins and water is excellent! I know that has helped me probably most of all.

Just the fact that you know what your hair's issues are, like getting oily, will really help you to narrow down what works for you.

Don't forget that if something isn't working for your hair, you can swap or sell it on here. Don't feel obligated to use it up just cuz you paid for it, or your HAIR will pay the price! ( I find myself doing this a lot!)

Best of luck with your hair!
