Even though I don't consider my hair long (currently full APL) I guess to some people's standard it's a nice length. I had it in a high ponytail yesterday and it probably came a couple of inches past my shoulders.
Anyways, last night I went to the movies with an old friend who hasn't seen my real hair in a while and you should have seen her eyes when I hopped in the car. Initially she looked at my hair, rolled her eyes and didn't say anything...so I'm thinking here we go.
So as we're on our way to the movies chit chatting out of no where in mid conversation she yanks my ponytail and says, "is that all your hair?" My first response was to smack her hand away but I figured all this hard work I put into my hair, go on and let her have a tug. Then she starts asking me how I grew it and how she wants to grow hers (her hair is currently neck length but damaged from a relaxer). The whole night she kept commenting on how nice it was and kept tugging at my ponytail (that did start to irritate me after a while).
After giving her some tips and telling her about protective styling I was able to talk her into considering going natural since it seems like the relaxers haven't been working for her.
While the compliments felt great it made me more happy that I could help someone else out with their hair...honestly I think that's the part I enjoy most about having healthy hair.
Just wanted to share....
