Silly Question -MSM

Naw, I really don't think so. However, I read in someone's fotki that the powder MSM made them break out/gave headaches. However, they did mention that the capsule MSM had much better results.
 
It's not a silly question. The first thing that comes to mind is powder is always more easily absorbed than tablets assuming they are both of made of the same material. Tablets have to be broken down first then dissolved in fluid so as to be absorbed, while powder just needs to dissolve and absorbed. I believe tablets also have to have some binding so they can stay in tablet form otherwise pure MSM would crumble. One might argue that one type of tablet MSM might be made of a more soluble form than the powder one, and that could be true coz quality does matter. Opti-MSM, Lignusil MSM and Distil-Pure MSM are better quality MSM than just any odd MSM without those trademarks on the label (so look for that on the label).

I don't know which tablets you have or are considering, but I take GNC. There's are Lignusil. I take them more for joint pain than for my hair. The ones that I take have 500 mg MSM and 500 mg Glucosamine.

Thanks for the response, I am taking the GNC brand capsule, wonder if I should open it before taking. How long have you been taking it and have you had positive results?

I've been taking them for about 18 months. I used to take the glucosamine/chondrointine(sp), but read that the MSM combo would be more beneficial. I didn't know that MSM was also a benefit to hair until after I found LHCF, so I can't really say whether it has been beneficial for my hair or not. I can say it has helped reduce my joint pain.

It seems that ladies who take it for hair growth take much higher doses than what I'm taking. :) According to the dosage instructions, I could take up to 3 capsules (1500mg) daily, but I'm only taking one.

ETA: I don't open mine.

The MSM I take is 1000 mg, would there be any harm in taking 2 capsules a day, by the way I also take 10000 mcg of biotin.

My apologies for taking so long to answer. I've been off the board for a few days. :)

As far as I know, 2000 mg should be fine, but you will want to drink plenty water. I learned here at lhcf that vitamin C helps in the absorbtion of MSM, so I take mine with OJ.
