Silk vs. Satin - which retains more moisture?

Hi Ladies! Which is better to use as a wrap for your hair - silk or satin? I have two wraps that both stay on well throughout the night, but wondering which

a) has less friction
b) retains more moisture

Thanks!

I have a method.

I use silk next to my hair for the protection, and I use a satin bonnet over that to help keep it on my head while sleeping. But I notice that my head gets hot when I'm walking around with the satin bonnet on by itself.

So my theory is that this polyester fabric is trapping in heat and keeping the moisture in the hair while I'm sleeping. So they are perfect together.

If I could only choose one it would be silk.

I just brought two more silk scarves because I'm officially giving up on my "satin" scarfs. I've been using these cheap satin scarves that I buy from the local BSS even before my HHJ, but lately I've been noticing that they snag my hair. Probably because they're not really satin lol...well I'm done.

Silk is best...now as far as moisture, I don't think I see a difference.

I would say silk is the best. I do the same method as Frizzy - silk scarf, then I use a doo-rag or satin bonnet on top to keep in place.

you can have a satin made of silk,

someone posted a few weeks ago that satin is actually a type of weave not a specific material.

The weave should be satin, which is a smooth weave, whether it is made of silk or polyester. This is so the hair can smoothly glide over it.

My guess is that polyester satin of good quality would be better because silk is absorbant & poly isn't. So I assume that poly would not be pulling moisture away from hair & would be better.

I noticed in other threads when deciding what to buy that most ladies preferred silk, and I like the look & feel of silk better, so I bought silk to make pillowcases with instead. I might buy poly later for a comparison test if anyone mentions that it helped them retain moisture better...
