It's safe to mix the SAA in something first, like mascara, then apply it to your lashes. :)

Ok thanks! I just had to make sure lol because knowing me, I would have put it on raw, like without mixing it with other stuff. lol

Bump! Anyone else try mixing SAA with their henna? I like the idea of easier rinse out but I don't know about mixing protein in with henna.

Hrm. This is an old one!!

Honestly, I'm not sure. I might have poured a lil SAA in my henna - having used it for a while, I can't see how it would hurt - but I also don't see how it would help, and it's a precious elixir for me. :lachen:

I make my henna easier to rinse out by mixing it with a buttload of conditioner. Applies easier, rinses like a dream, and cleans my hair & scalp, all at once!

Thanks Kiya. Since using henna I have cut out protein but I keep hearing people say you should alternate henna and protein. I also have more natural hair on my head than relaxed so I figured I don't have to worry about protein as much since I am not stripping it away with relaxers anymore. It looks like SAA would be a safe way to incorporate proteins and still use henna regularly. Do you do protein treatments at all since you henna?

I rarely do - esp. now that it's hot. When I was doing protien treatments, I would mix a lil Mega-Tek in with my usual moisturizing DC, and call it a day for a 'light' treatment. A major protein treatment is always henna. My hair is fine and thirsty, and it likes that arrangement just fine.

Honestly, to me, SAA isn't much of a protein. I use it in EVERYTHING that I put on my hair (except for the henna) and I find that it's just enough of a protein to help the moisture 'stick' to my hair - but definitely not enough to make it 'hard' by any stretch of the imagination.

Thanks for replying so quickly! I have one Aubrey Organics conditioner with protein that I use but I may play around with the SAA because I don't feel like my hair needs any heavier proteins any more. Thanks again!

i think im going to try the saa in my cassia mix and see how it works out. i definitely dont see it causing and type of hardening. then again many of my mixes have been all jacked up from things i thought would just make it better. i guess we shall see in about a week.

Super bump! I just received my liquid silk amino acids from Lotion Crafters and added it to my Fixative deep conditioner, which is sitting on my head right now lol! I will be adding SAA to my henna in the next few weeks and will report back. I'm expecting the henna to rinse out even easier based on what I read in this thread.

Is henna to dye your hair

Yes and to also strengthen the hair. Henna is not a protein but behaves much in the same way. It seeps into all layers and makes the hair heavier over time.
I have SAA in my cart right now, due to this thread being bumped. I could have used SAA two weeks ago, lol. I will be ready now.

I have a question: can SAA be used in a deep conditioner with heat? I don’t want to denature the product by using my heating cap. Same thing for the powder (I have both).

Next question: does anyone henna once per week? I’m thinking of doing this until the first week of February 2021 to thicken up my hair a bit. Just wanting to know if it’s work the effort or if i should just stick to once per month.

I've used SAA for years. I add my Megatek DC with JBCO then sit under my dryer hood. You don't need to add a lot - just a few drops of the liquid.

I've been on the board a while and don't recall anyone using it weekly, but maybe someone else will chime in. I use it once a month. I know my hair wouldn't like a weekly treatment because henna is like a protein for my hair and would likely make my hair too hard. I've been thinking about upping it to twice a month (maybe a full treatment and a gloss). I might start that next month after my next relaxer.

Regarding SAA and heat, I've added it to my heated DCs all the time with no issues or loss of awesomeness.
