Harana  your hair has made amazing progress, it looks great now. I like the sound of your regime. Im gonna take up the bolded part, i never thought of doing that because i can't do without combing my hair.

Thanks so much! Combing my hair while it was dry defintely increased my breakage. It was LHCF that taught me the term "slip". For me, that was crucial to minimizing breakage.

WOW! Everyone has made tremendous progress!

Here is my hair's worst moment.

This was October 2006. This pic was my first ever protective style - a term I learned from LHCF. That piece of hair I was holding would not grow past a certain point at all. Now, I can't even find it! :-)

AfroTwistBack2-1.jpg

Up to this point:
I was wearing braids for 6 weeks.
Giving myself a 2 week break.
I was blowdrying after every weekly wash and pressing my hair every 2 weeks. But I was deep conditioning.
Not moisturizing at all in between washes.
Only used hair oil.
Not doing any protective styles.

I just covered my hair with a scarf when I went out.

Here's where I'm at today. YAY!

Some of the changes I've made:
I started moisturizing with Qhemet Biologics heavy cream after every wash and before every protective twist/braided style.
I never comb dry hair. It's either dampened with moisturizer or conditioner or wet with water or spritz.
I prepoo with oils and conditioners.
I deep condition for an hour or overnight.
I only use heat once or twice a year when I straighten my hair.
I still oil my scalp.

Girl, you have just redefined the words "growth retention." Congrats!

ETA: Combs are evil. :)

I know...everyone is always talking about the horrors of combing wet hair...I mean, to be truthful:look:...it's the only way I CAN comb without hearing my hair snap.

I really like your hair. It looks very moisturized and soft. Beautiful. I've added your Fotki to my inspiration list.

This is my hair at shoulder length. I had been natural for 1 and a half year. I was just starting to get serious about taking care of my natural hair. This was around winter 2004.

My before and after are in my siggie--

The before pic is right after coming out of micros. I didn't care for them properly (as I did the time i had them three years ago) and I stumbled across LHCF.

The after pic was taken two months ago in September.

My hair has thrived because of bunning, LR, and Miracle 2000.

My god has there ever been a time you weren't trim and toned? You look wonderful:yep:

CMW45, I would agree. I only comb my hair when it's wet or full of product (which makes it wet) too. I wouldn't dare try to take a comb to my hair when it's dry.

I've posted these before, but what the hay, I'll do it again :look:

Oops, I forgot to answer the questions.
I washed my hair alot back then but didn't deep condition at all. And I used the flat iron everyday, with Wonder 8 Oil. To be frank, I was just not caring :nono: I didn't even notice it; a co-worker that I can't stand pointed out to me how thin my hair was :nono: That's when I knew I had to do something.

Now I wash 2x/week, deep condition 1-2x/wk, rollerset sometimes, but I learned how to blowdry/flat iron properly and do protective/low-manipulation styles. I just put my ends up for a year, and these are the results I got. I am slowly working up to wearing my hair down 1-2 days per week (on the weekends). Once I make it over the SL hump, I may start wearing my hair out to work  MAYBE :look:

I joined the board in February of 2003, and this picture was taken February of 2003 by my ex, Obi, who was on a Valentine's visit.

I was relaxed then. Let's see if I can remember my regimine.

-My mom use to relax my hair bone straight, so I think it was over processed.
-I would grease my scalp every 3 days.
-Wash and air dry every week.
-I think I may have used hot curlers here, since my ex was in town from London, but I was never a big fan of those. I used grease and no heat protectant.
-I would wear my hair loose every day and then pull into a ponytail and roll for bed then cover with a satin scarf.
-I really don't think I ever had crazy habits dealing with my hair. My regimine was pretty simple, and I never had a problem with length retention.
-I went natural because I wanted thicker hair and wanted to try something different. Current pics are in my signature. :yep:

MissJ, you are so cute :)

In 2005 I listened to the advice of Shamboosie and used the only colour he recommended was safe for black relaxed hair. Needless to say he was lying. My hair broke off so bad I had an upside down V, my hair was literally eaten out in the middle of the back.

I didn't cut it, but 2 years later I got it back on the right path. (see my siggy pics)
