Yeah, the woman in the video I posted is a member here.

Too bad you don't like donuts. Maybe on youtube they have other tutorials without the donuts.

I've been bunning since my hair was about NL, which is the first pic in my siggy. Your bun is fine, but instead of using the extra ponytail holder to make the bun, just pin your ends down with bobby pins. You can actually give the illusion that your bun is much bigger when you do this because you can fan it all the way out and really just get the very ends down and make the bun as wide as you like. Been doing this way since I was 12 years old and in ballet class (so that's 17 years of faking a big bun, lol).

Also girl you'd better dress up that bun with some HAIR CANDY. Scarves, cute head bands, flowers, etc etc... I've got lots of pics of that in my fotki. Here's a recent bun pic I took using the same method I described above. I just hooked it up with a headband and I was done:

I got the gold band at Target by the way ;-).

That's so cute! I was just waiting for you to come in this thread and I didn't know it, lol.

*runs off to stalk your fotki*

I was FINALLY able to get my hair into a ponytail. My hair is short (chin length) but I just do the baggie method and place a phonie pony on it---check out my siggy.

OT: foxieroxienyc you have beautiful skin. :)

Well i'm in the military, so i wear buns all the time(fake ones) lol:lachen:! my hair is just approaching SL and i am way to embrassed to wear my tiny baby bun for the public eye to see!

Here's what i do: i purchase a large bun with a huge hollow hole in the inside, and apply the baggy technique!!!:yep: lol this works for me.....

also, i think they are pretty sturdy for the most part, but once the clips are a little to loose. i usually toss em out and purchase another one(because they are pretty cheap to buy)

I braid the it into my hair, fold the braid over, wrap the ends around the base and secure with holders.

Oh and thanx... but the shine comes from that good ole' castor oil.. I had to slick that nappy mess up some kind of way.

:worship2:
TashaK, you are a genius!:yep: i am so gonna try this for an alternative style and also just one big braid down the center with the end tucked under. i know how to braid, but i am always to lazy to do a full set of cornrows.

now i don't have to wear my fake supersized bun all the time:lachen:!

Im SL and wear buns faithfully, I can't view your pics at the moment. However before a bun, when it was to small I would just make a pony, and pull the hair half way out and call it a day. Even now my bun looks small, therefore my scrunchi makes it look full. So im content. Im still trying to get the thickness look in my bun myself.

I'm very wary of wearing buns, I pin my hair up very loosely, but the tight bun is not something I do very often.

I used to bun every day, and consequently it affected my hair in a bad way. So now I will only do a very ocassional ponytail or bun.

I have a bunette, and no, I won't wear it out, at all. I know that's just my personal hang-up, but - nuhuh. The only time I wear it is when I'm DC'ing. I've considered going for the phony bun, but meh. I'll just wait for my hair to get longer. :look:

I wear buns a ton of different ways. I haven't gotten around to using pantyhose for ponytail holders yet though, so I don't wear them with ponytail holders as much as I did a year ago.

I wore buns in the summer when my hair was shorter after my trim and still do I used ponytails holders then because it was easier to secure. Now that's it's grown back, I've found that I can make buns with just a small clip or two and wrapping/twisting the hair up, so that's how I make them now, since it's less tension. I wear a bun with a clip or a ponytail holder almost everyday out of laziness/time issues, plus it's like week 12 or something of my stretch. I should moisturize more while I'm at it though... but I'm lazy.

That's a cute bun :yep:

I wear buns all the time. My bun is puny too, so I use a kids pony. I put my hair in bun with a satin scrunchy, plop on the phony pony, and ball it up to something that looks like a bun. Here is a link:

That looks great! You all are very creative!

Yeah, I'm not thinking of wearing my hair up everyday. Maybe 3 times a week and not too tight. My edges are naturally weak, so I'm not playing around with it.

YES YES YES !!! I'm barely grazing SL and I've been wearing a bun since I was EL. LOL as long as I have enough hair a make a nub it's on! I use almost a pack of human track hair, I use hair glue to glue the track to itself about 10 or 12 inches wide, I keep folding & gluing the track to together to I end up with basically a track of hair that's 4 layers thick. then I squeeze the glued tracks tightly together while I gently pass a blow dryer back and fourth to dry. I slick my hair back in a mini bun of whatever hair I have, then pin on my weft. By me pregluing it together it saves me from wrapping over and over. I usually only have to wrap about 3 or 4 times. I use hair pins for this, then I twirl the hair into a bun & secure with 2 black terry scrunchies, I use black so they don't so as much. I use a little jam & a bobby pin here or there wherever I need to hold down the shorter hairs. I've been doing this for years with no problems. This is the same way I make a phony pony while I'm waiting to grow out. And the best part is I can take it off every night & use it over & over
HTH, FLOW

oh yeah I forgot to add I use 12 or 14 inch hair to get a nice fat bun:yep:

this is basically what i do... my hair is super short so i pully it back in a ponytail. take some (way less than a full pack) wet-n-wavy track hair (i'm transitioning so straight hair looks too-too fake, lol.) and wrap/pin it around my ponytail. spray the weave with water to make it curly and then kinda fold it up and put a ponytail older around it. arrange the curls a bit and i'm good to go. it only takes a second and i get compliments.

eta: i tried the premade buns from the bss, :nono:. not comfy at all.

Your bunnette is cute! Be embarrassed if you want to but what's the point? It's cute, you take care of it and it's growing.

My bun is not only affected by my length but by the texture (fine & thin) of my hair. I love it and today when I wash out my avocado DT imma be back to this:

Oooooh, very creative.

Do you have any pics of it?

This is basically how it looks in a phony pony, I can only insert one pic in my siggy, but I just wanted you to see the length hair that I use, I'll post a pic pf the back in a few.

I agree premade bun also look a little fake, and yes when you use curly/wavy hair you can use much less.

Your ponytail looks cute!

I don't know... just looking at the pics of my own hair... it doesn't look cute to me. I don't know if it's hair anorexia or what.

you know..... regardless of length i have always had such a scrawny bun! i do have thick hair, i have nice fluffly pony tails but for some reason my buns are microscopic. lol

I'm un SL still a few inches away from APL. I'll probably wait until i have more length and put it in buns only when its curly.

I'm afraid of phony buns  I dunno... I never wore anything like it before. I'm afraid it's going to fall off or something. I'll take a look next time I'm in the BSS, but I'm really hesitating.

If you don't want to wear a phony bun piece (which can fall off if it's not secured. Especially those ones with the combs in them), you can just make one out of braiding hair. I used to take a pack of braiding hair - well maybe half the pack and make one giant braid or twist out of it. Then I would take it and pin it around my hair to make a bun. It's much more secure than the phony bun. I also make buns out of tracks/weave hair like somebody else mentioned. There's some pictures in my fotki.

My bun is puny as well and I wouldn't dare wear it in public. It gathers nicely so I guess I could add a phony pony or something.

Not really...that's like saying all weaves look fake. That's not really true. My phony bun piece looks natural. I'll have to post a pic next time I wear it. But, besides, people who see you everyday can tell that you have a hair piece whether it is a phony bun or a phony ponytail-bun, IMO.
