I'm new to the LHCF and as I can see, there are many females with such long and beautiful hair!
But I have to admit..I'm a little skeptical about my hair and how long it could grow. I would like to pull off the 4a look someday so I right now that's my hair goal.

But this is what I would like to see:
Ladies, if you started off with short (really short) hair..and now your hair is really long-please be kind enough to post your photos in this thread.
And also, I'm extemely curious to what a woman's regimen is so if it's not so much of a deep secret, post that as well.

I'd like to see as well. That'd give me an enormous amount of motivation right now.

I don't think following someone else's regimen would work the same way it does to that person. You kind of have to work with what your hair may need/lack and start from there. For example, if your hair is breaking alot right now and you know you aren't moisturizing enough, you hair may lack moisture. Also, if you are over manipulating your hair with too much stress or too much direct heat, you need to minimize it if not completely cut it out of your regimen.

You basically have to think about what your routine is, and alter the places that aren't working. Also, go over your problem areas and think about what you can stop doing or what you can start doing to correct them.

There are some pictures in the threads I posted. And some people just have siggy pics that show their long hair, so that when they say they only ever got to shoulder, if you can just picture that in your mind's eye, you can hold a paper to their photo and see what shoulder looked like and then slowly slide the paper to cover only half their head so you can see the distance their ends have reached now.
 
Do some poking around and you'll find tons of what you seek.

Nonie gave you some great places to start.

Don't be skeptical about the lengths YOUR hair can grow.

If you decide to grow your hair long and do what's necessary for it to grow long then it will grow long.

Make the decision, take care of your hair, and watch it flourish.

Note: Sorry, I am a really literal person.

My hair has always been shoulder length my entire life with a stripe of breakage in the middle of my head from crown to nape. It was a little past shoulder length during my jherri curl days. It is now bsb (below shoulder blade) in 3 years from last relaxer to now. In addition, I had no clue what I was doing for the first year. So, yes it is definitely possible and I personally find it very easy, now that I know what the heck I am doing.

My hair has grown a lot in the last year, but I'm coming from neck length, so I'm sure my pictures aren't going to be that inspiring (to anyone but me.)

Well I was looking up of people with 4a hair so that's why I said that. I love the look and I would like to have that some day. I didn't mean for it to come off in a weird way.

That's cool but please do not set yourself up for disappointment by having expectations of what your hair will look like as a natural.
Your hair texture is what it is and can not be changed.

I'm trying to be politically correct:
I've read some unsettling threads of people expecting or hoping for a certain type of hair and being upset when they had a type they found undesirable.

My unsolicited opinion is, if it belongs to you, love it.

OP, I am growing mine from a pixie relaxed cut. I have BC'd in June and now it is aiming to NL stretched. I hope to be SL by december or January. Maybe once I make some major progress, I will post pics.
 
OP, Jamaicalovely is one I can think of off the top of my head who grew from pixie to past SL. You can also look her up! She's relaxed.

Just to get a little clarification...are you relaxed or natural? You can check out Sera (she's natural 4a/b) on youtube. She has a nice video showing pics from a Fade to Waistlength in 5 years.

Also, check out Sylver2's fotki. I think she started out at Neck or Shoulder length (4a relaxed)and made it to Waistlength.
 
I think jamaicalovely went from halle berry short to past SL. Also sylver2 went from halle berry short to WL. I know there are tons more

Sorry to disappoint you, but if 4a is your hair type, there is nothing to the "4a look" other than going natural, and maybe keeping your hair moisturized. Do you know your hair type?

I really enjoy the "then and now" threads, and the ones Nonie posted are great. Just for fun, here's mine:

Let's get down to this regimen thing. People here rarely keep it a secret. A lot of times you will find that you don't have to make DRASTIC changes to see DRASTIC results in your moisture (or length) retention.
 
OP, I'm in the same boat as you. I think my hair may have been around APL when I was a toddler, but aside from that, my hair typically hovered between 1 to 4 inches. And even at times when it got to four, and once I think it even made it close to five inches, it was always broke off in the back and stayed between 1 to 2 inches back there.

Now that I've gone natural and am learning better, healthier hair care practices, my hair is growing nicely and much faster than I believed it could. Though I still don't know how long it will manage to get, I am cautiously optimistic that I can achieve lengths I have never seen before. At the moment, my hair is about three inches all over, even in the back where it was always shorter than the rest. I am hoping to make it to SL before the year is out. Assuming I make it, that will be the longest my hair has been since I was a very little girl.
 
When we first get here, we all have doubts about how long our hair can grow but just read the threads, find what works for your hair and stick to it as much as possible. There are many threads here with pics on exactly what you are looking for. Your hair is going to grow. All you have to do is learn to retain it.

Thanks lilsparkle. I wore half wigs until my hair was long enough to pull into a small ponytail. Once it was long enough for a ponytail I wore a UPA clip until I was comfortable wearing my own hair. I also wore a weave for about 2 months.
