SHORT HAIRED LADIES[&& I MEAN SHORT HAIR]

for%20Jewel.jpg

LOVE THIS!!!! it's sooooo thick. i could probably stay this short for life if my hair were this thick......but i want length too!!!

Hey ladies my hair is bottom of neck length. I do several styles I like:
braid out
spike with light spritz (spike all over)
wrap (I do this one most of the time)
flat iron (1x wk)
I keep the front out part on the sides and bunch the back and pin
cornrows r my all time favorite. I use mtg and the last 2wks of the month I cornrow and by the time I take them out it is time for a relaxer. I don't stretch bx with mtg my ng gets really thick and myh air breaks so I relax every 6-8 wks
Phony pony (I do this some but not a lot bx of the stress on the hair in certain spots)
I wrap my hair going back and then comb down on the sides just fluff and go.
Or mostly on the weekends I use a head wrap and just let it go.

When I wrap I only use mtg 2 scalp, Aphogee keratin spray and my leave in my hair comes out really bouncy. For good shine I use paul mitchell wrap pomade it give my hair shine and u don't need much. I air dry all of the tx even my dc is just with a plastic cap no heat and maybe a towel.

You could do it... trust me. My hair is fine (but healthy) and I still have that exact same look. When I came across this pic (looking for other styles) it was like looking in the mirror. I think the layers in my hair make it look full. Everytime I tell my stylist I want to starting growing it as long as I can, I come back weeks later and say, nevermind. I just LOVE short sassy styles.

I wore short hair for 10 years. It can be hard to not use heat, but my favorite hair style was the wild, bed head look. I was not into healthy hair care back then, but you can definitely use some natural hair care products to achieve that look. If I wore the wild look I didn't use much if any heat.

As for the back of my hair, I wanted it short and straight, so I really didn't care. Plus my hair grows like crazy so I got an edge up or cut it down every week when I was getting my hair done.

I often miss my short hair, but I'm getting used to my longer hair I guess...I just want to see how long it can grow.

I do agree coating the really short areas with oil will help with overprocessing.

Good luck to you!

My hair is short too (in the back) but longer than yours. My hair is fine so when I wrap it, it "leans" that way after it's styled, so I dry it straight under the dryer. At night I may wrap it loosely (with a wide tooth comb) or pull the sides back and put on a silk bonnet.

To style, why not try to do a few random flipped pieces. I see you have bangs, maybe bend them up in the front so that when you comb it over, it flips on the side. Go to http://www.universalsalons.com/ and you'll find some nice short ideas.

This is not me in this pic but this is EXACTLY how my hair is cut. Sometimes I flip it near the top in the back and leave the back under and feathered to the side. Sometimes I flip the front and random pieces around the sides and back. You'd be surprised how those flips can stay after sleeping on them. With my short hair, mine last about two days.

Oh my god!!!! If my hair was like this, I would stay this length too!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kandi for ur input. You're one one of the people whose progress gives me hope because my hair is about where yours was in march 08!! I'm loving the half wig as well def think I will be trying this!

Awe, thanks.

Its all about my retention methods - less heat (only direct heat under the dryer), protective styling and moisturizing and sealing those ends.

I'm still not getting as much growth as others but I'm happy.

Hello fellow short haired ladies :-) I just got some kinky twists and I must say they are really growing on me. I'll have some pics soon. There was no way I could stretch my relaxer beyond 6 weeks without looking like a crazy person so braids will have to do for now!

I just put some pics up in my fotki so tell me what you think! no password needed.

Hey sweetie,

Your kinky twists look great sweetie! What hair did you use?

JessCNU,

Girl your short cuts are BAD!!!!! I like your twists too but I LOVE a nice precision cut. It looks so polished...in a business suit to jeans and a t-shirt. I guess you just have that face that can wear both.

I have a short bob and I wrestle with growing my hair out but I love the polished look of a short cut.

Thank you so much!:Blush2: I love my hair short but I have been wearing it short for so long I think it's time to see if i can grow it out for real this time. I just need to hide my scissors lol

Thanks!!! I used that regular ol Marly hair. I have heard stories about people not liking it but I've never had any problems with it. I did a lite protein treatment and a really good deep condition with heat the night before i got them. I made sure i mosterized my hair very well that night and morning and I watched that lady like a HAWK to make sure she wasn't puting my braids in too tight. especially around the edged. I have had braids so many times and I've never had a problem with my edges. I don't play that squeeze my brains out look. My hair wasn't sore at all afterwards. I have a bottle of boundless tresses and one of Ovation. I switch between the two applying these to my scalf daily. I have a spray bottle of water and some random oils to keep my braids moist and I spray that on throuout the day. I plan to wash once a week or whenever I see buildup on my scalp. I'll just use some diluted shapoo and place it directly on my scalp and follow with some condish and rinse away!

Whoever that is has some fiyah hair!!!!

When my hair was a short, tapered pixie cut,i didn't do anything but was/condition w/ aveda damage remedy. Then dry w/ some styling foam and flat iron.
It ALWAYS LOOKED GOOD,but those ends when i was started to grow it out:nono:

Split ends all over and terrible heat damage.

I know its hard to maintain a short cut,but do not put constant heat on it!!!

thanks sweetie. Hopefully, I will have enough newgrowth to get braids at the end of next month........:crossfingers:

miamora-Thanks! when i used the optimum anti-breakage perm it came with some kind of lotion to Apply to pre-relaxed hair. I assume this is to avoid over proccessing also?

Sorry it took me forever to get back to you! But yep, I think it serves the same purpose. :yep:

I love my hair short but I have been wearing it short for so long I think it's time to see if i can grow it out for real this time. I just need to hide my scissors lol

Hey Jess, just saw your fotki I like the twist. I also love your short do's, very nice. I'm also growing my hair just to see if I can grow it out long for real and retain it. I'm very scissor happy!

i don't know how short your hair is, but from your avatar, i would continue to wrap it. you can set it on skinny flexi rods or straws. the last time my hair was short and relaxed, to grow it back i got some kinky twists and then when i got more length, i still relaxed, but i started wrapping it. i had a really short pixie cut. i also would wash and go my hair and would use mouse to scrutch it up. i'm natural now and i cut my hair short into a fade earlier this year and stopped cutting and trimming it around the middle of june. i wash go and i wear twists styles.

thanks ladies for all your advice! im so glad this bored was a success. lets keep these styles coming! btw that picture of that hair style is sooo cute!

Ok I know my hair is shoulder length but please I have input because I was halle berry short not too long ago. What I have now learned is that to put olive oil or some type of conditioner on my hair to prevent over processing the back. Cuz face it the back is so short you can't help but over lap right? It didn't matter if I relaxed my own hair or went to the salon. I also bought a hooded dryer and like the OP said. I would put setting lotion on my hair and I would put those "white wrap bands" I can't think of their proper name, around my head and sat under the dryer for 20 minutes or so and my hair would be straight with a little bang at the ends. I loved my hair short. Yaul making me want to go back. LOL Hope this helps! OOh I also bought some little jeri curl rods and for fun I would set my hair in those rollers and sit under the dryer. It made me look like I was a natural head for a week. very cute

That's a great tip! the only thing is, how did you know the relaxer was working if all that stuff was on it? I really don't even want to put relaxer back there right now, that's why i got braids. I am notorious for overlapping that short area in the back

Those are neck strips, that barbers originally used to go around their clients' necks when they cut hair.

When I was Halle Berry short, I just put relaxer in the back period... By the time it would get kinky it was all natural to me anyway. I would spot perm (just perm the kitchen area) with base around the edges and rubbed into the scalp back there, but never worried about overlapping. It was so short. Back then and even today my hair in the back grows faster than the sides and front.

Hey ladies...when my hair was in a short cut (pic in my profile) all I could do was continue to wrap it with gel/mousse and hood dry it. After a few months I could grab it into a lil pigtail...I phoney pony & bunned it from that point out. For the ladies with tapered/shaved hair, try wigs, braids and sew-ins until you can get a pony. Good luck to you all & happy hair growing!

P.s. pmichael...that's some serious hair porn you brought up in here....had me drooling!

I would time how long I left the relaxer on like I do the rest of my hair, and/or you can go and manipulate the relaxer with the back side of a rat tailed comb to make sure it is straight.

Thanks daephae! Now you see why I wrestle with the thought of growing my hair long again... when I wash and style it and look in the mirror... I want to keep this style. You should see when I flip it in different spots! :yep:
