I updated the first postCan you show us?
Very interesting! She used two different techniques. Combing with a rat tail comb for the back of her head, and smoothing between 2 fingers for the other parts. Which of these is the shingling?
But like @Coilystep these methods would not work for my naturally rough, dry and frizzy hair. The lady in the video has very silky hair which means that it's much easier to define. This explains how combing with a rat tail comb can possibly define her curls. Personally it would turn my hair into an uncurlable frizz for at least the next 3 wash days.
Sorry I don't know what your hair is like. I just made the association by looking at how silky her hair is. I think it's just a quality of the hair, per se that makes it super easy to clump and define by just a passage of the comb through. For my hair even passing a denman or a wide tooth comb through would break the clumps, undefine the curls, and turn my hair into a frizzy mess for quite a while. But then my hair is naturally dry and frizzy and very difficult to coax into clumping in the first place.I used to do this all the time! It was the only way my hair would look decent when I wasn't in twists. My hair is not silky or loose at all! I even showed how I did it on my fotki. The end result was glorious! I just didn't do the blow dryer part.
Its both the combing and smoothing that makes the shingles like a roof, hence the name.

I think that different methods work for different types of hair. It obviously works for her, so it's definitely a valuable method. And it works for you too. It's great that she chose to share it with the world.
OMG I hope I did not come across as angry. I'm just jealous that my hair does not get defined with a comb. That's all. Don't mind me lol.Lol I think there is a misunderstanding here. I just didnt want the technique to be ignored because her texture is silky so I mentioned myself. This was so popular at one time so I'm surprised no one remembers .
