Shapley's Orginal M-T-G Users

I know a lot of ladies were concerned awhile back about using Shapley's Original M-T-G on their hair. Therefore, I e-mailed the company and here is the information I got from the company awhile back...sorry I forgot to post it on here sooner. Hope this helps...also I'm a user too

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email regarding use of Original M-T-G on human hair.

Let me begin by giving you a bit of background on the product and company. As you may already know, Original M-T-G was originally formulated by a barber for use on psoriases, dandruff and dry skin on his customers. This was in the 1930's and that product is essentially the same formula that we are currently using.

What I am hearing and reading is that people are getting great results from using Original M-T-G. Because of this, I have begun to research marketing it for human hair care market with a better fragrance.

With all that being said, I can tell you that none of the ingredients in the current formula for Original M-T-G have any known detrimental effects on humans (with the exception of an allergic reaction to sulfur). We have had the formula reviewed by a human hair care specialist (PhD with FDA experience) and he has given us the ok to pursue the human market with the current formula.

This is what we are doing currently. We hope to have this available to market soon.

I hope the new fragrance is better than the old one, but for some reason it dosen't bother me too much, but my daughter hates it and only wants me to apply it to her hair on the weekends, so she won't get picked at in school.

I understand. The smell is pretty bad. I put pure peppermint oil in mine, it helps.

I appreciate you posting this. I purchased a bottle of MTG, but have been a little nervous about actually using it. The response put some of my concern to rest. I look foward to trying it now.

It would be a good idea to find out how soon this is going to happen. More than likely they will try to raise the prices tremendously. That's usuallly what companies do when they find out something is really working for the consumers. I may start stocking up soon.

I'm gonna keep buying the one for horses bc I have a feeling the one for humans are going to be more expensive. I dont mind tha smell of original MTG funny right. It reminds me of the grease I used as a child called DAX the black one. So its ok.

I stopped using mine a while ago, and I threw out the bottle a few weeks ago b/c I really can't take the smell anymore and I couldn't see myself using it again. If they come out with a made-for-humans version with a better smell I'd definitely give it a try.

The smell is pretty bad, very loud odor, like glover's mane. I would add something to it and not use it alone.

Glover's Mane added a floral scent to their line. Hope Shapley does this SOON!

My friend also says the say re. black Dax - but as I have never used this i dont know - but its definitely a bacony/smokey kind of smell - I just apply it in the evening - so by the time I wake up it all gone - my friend however doesnt care what her workmates think and puts it on - so far no one has said a thing!!
