SERIOUSLY considering the BC...

Hey ladies,

Soooo, it's been a while since I actually posted in the Hair Care Discussion forum...and it's not a coincidence. I am SO FREAKING FRUSTRATED with my hair. I have been transitioning since November, and my growth is stagnant. I haven't been taking care of my hair AT ALL for the past month, and I am sick of looking at it or touching it. (This may also have something to do with the lack of self-esteem I have right about now, but I digress) I am seriously TIRED of looking at my broken off damaged relaxed ends. The only problem is I have about 1 inch of new growth. Even though my hair is severely damaged, I am scared to walk around with just a teensy bit of hair. I don't have the confidence it takes to walk around with a TWA (I commend those who do), especially being a member of my family :nono:. Do you ladies have any words of encouragement about just going for it? I am two seconds away from put a scissor to this head of mine.

First of all, you are adorable. You can pull off short hair.
If you want to BC, don't let ANYONE tell you ANYTHING about it.

Go get a new outfit. Some nice earrings.
Get your face made up. (Go to Sephora or somewhere if you don't
do makeup).

Get your blunt **** and WERK IT!

Kanye's new girl is almost bald and she is FIERCE!

All you have to do it own it!

Edit to add:
I've BC before. I was a senior in high school. I went from
shoulder length hair to less than .5 inches of hair.
I was scared, but enjoyed it.

Thank you sooo much! You're right about Kanye's chick, she is tooo fierce!

I think you'd look great with a twa. Just go for it, that's what I did.
I had set a spring date, then on the spur of the moment just went and got it cut and haven't regretted it one bit! I went from about 3 inches past SL to about an inch/inch and a half of hair in the longest part. It was a shock but I love it! I agree w/ Bella about going to get a new outfit (or wear one of your favorites), get a makeover, and new earrings. I think that helped me out a lot.

My family/friends didn't really support me either, I got the :ohwell: :perplexed many many times. But it's MY hair and I finally got over wondering/caring what others thought.

I just BC'ed last month. I too had been transitioning since December and just got tired of it. I ended up just shaving it all off... Yeah it was scary but I've gotten soooo many compliments. My "so" was positive he was going to hate it... Now he can't stop touching it. Girl, you just gotta do you! If you're ready to chop, don't let anyone stop you. Only you truly know if you're ready. Like other posters have said, buy a new outfit, get some cute earrings and rock it!!

Wait for more hair. If you already know that you don't have the self esteem for it, don't do it. Because no matter how much encouragement you get here, you're still alone IRL, and you have to go outdoors at some point.

Just be patient until you have enough hair for you to be comfortable sporting. We have your back here, but we can't be with you at home when you're feeling down.

Can the church say amen? Court you know I love you babe..and I'm not a fan of the BC.. but this is some truth right here. We carry a lot of pride in our hair.

I say, go get your hair cut in a cute short style first, so at least you can get use to seeing yourself with short hair. Then, if you are okay, then in a month or two cut the rest off. I had a friend of mine who went natural and she always had shoulder length hair. She wasn't sure if she could carry off a short style b/c she never had one, so she gradually every couple of months just kept cutting off a couple of inches until she was okay with seeing herself that way and then she bc'd the rest off. I agree with
Denise11, if you're already in a little funk, then the last thing you want to do is do something drastic and beat yourself up for it later on.

Hope this helps.

I think you should wait. If you are tired of it maybe you should get braids to hide your hair for a while and give it more time to grow out. Don't BC out of frustration, you may end up hating it.

I've bc'd twice without hardly any hangups, (only hang up being my 5 head:grin: I don't carry off a baldie well, but I still had fun). If you want to do it then go for it!... Just make sure that's what you REALLY want. You don't want to have any regrets when you see all of your hair on the floor. One thing I've learned about hair is it will grow back.

Why not wait for more hair before you do the BC since you know you're not comfy with wearing a TWA? In the meantime do a minichop into a cute style where you can maybe mask the damage a little bit.

If you are not certain you'd be happy with a TWA don't do it - everyone isn't comfortable with a TWA and YOU have to happy with YOUR look. I fully understand your where you are right now - I was there on Monday - until I get a good trim on Tuesday. My hair needed some shape and definition to it even while transitioning. I clipped my ends myself, but there having someone who knows how to give a decent haircut can really make a difference. It made me feel so much better and it LOOKS so much better and it's cooperating in the morning - when I remove my rollers I can finger comb it in place and it looks good all day.

I am also using Mizani Thermasmooth during the transition. I took the products with me when I got my hair done and it contributed to my hair being more manageable through this process.

Don't get too obsessed about growth at this point. Shrinkage is a part of life for natural hair and that hides a LOT of growth. So becoming obsessed with seeing length gains this early will only make it harder later on. Sometimes it feels like my hair has been the same length for a year or more. It's only when I look at pics from over a period of time that I can see the growth. So your hair is probably growing more than you know, but just shrinking up.

Also, I understand what you mean about being scared to have a twa. I myself transitioned past the twa stage. But from your siggy pic you would look very cute with a twa. You could totally rock one if you wanted to.

My head is big and I'm going to rock a TWA the first week in April. Because I'm tired of dealing with the two textures. I'm only 2 months post.

I'm actually going to wear a full cap weave and I have a half wig that I bought. So for the half wig I'm just leaving my bangs out; and that will be the only two textures that I will be dealing with.

I hear what you are saying and if you are not ready to do it, don't. No one is forcing you. Braid it up for a while so you don't have to look at it all the time since it depresses, you have a low manipulation style and your hair will be growing all the while it's in braids. if you are not ready to BC, don't!
