Serious decision to abandon the blowdryer...

All right, this is it. I'm seriouly going to abandon my blowdryer and BELOVED curling iron. I don't curl that often, maybe every three weeks or so but I don't want to use any heat. The winter is just too drying here. Anyhoo, I want to know the best way to roller set. Anyone put roller in overnight? That's what I would have to do or else I could just forget leaving the house for an entire day. Any suggestions? From where should I buy rollers since I'll need to buy them online? Help.

Hi Leshia. If it is heat you want to avoid, maybe you want to think about using the Caruso steam system. It curls your hair with steam in minutes. It is very efficient and moisture beneficial to hair. The other ladies may have other suggestions, but the Caruso works well for me. I air dry my hair and then roll-- once dry I wrap sometimes.

Good Job Leshia! This is probably the best thing you can do for your hair, especially if you are relaxed. You will really reap the benefits:)

tiahes, can you use the caruso steam rollers to do a roller set? I'm looking to be able to sleep with them because if I air dry I'm not sure I can roll and have half-decent looking hair.

Supergirl, I appreciate the support. I'm serious about this...I want hair down my back by the time I leave here for Washington D.C. (7 mos). I even told my husband today to hide my curling iron and my blowdryer and not to give it back no matter how much I beg!

Yes, Leshia you can use them to roller set. I have roller set my hair and I have also did a roller set and "doobie". I don't think you are suppose to sleep in them because they are meant to be so efficient. You can only use on dry hair. What I do is, air dry or sit under hood dryer for quicker process, and then steam roll. My hair is relaxed, but not bone straight-- I have a heavy wavy texture. But once I steam roll my hair with the jumbo rollers and wrap my hair is straight. I don't know your hair type. By the way they have the regular LG/MED/SM size rollers for just a plain roller set. Sorry for the long post. Hope this is helpful!!

tiahes, my hair is fine but has been seeming a bit thicker since I've started air drying. Now, seeing as how it's kinda thick when I try to comb it out I'm wondering if it will be "nice" when I take it out of the rollers. When I blow dry it's pretty fine but with the thicker and wavier texture...I wonder...I think I'll order them though. Only because you're being positive and I'm a SERIOUS pj. *smirks*
In reply to:

kitkat, well,it had better start talking because a girl can "crack" without her curling iron. I start to have withdrawl of that silky soft, curling iron curled feeling and things could get ugly. Anybody have a link to some steam rollers?? If not, I'll do a seach, no biggie.
In reply to:

Throw them out, if you can. That's what I did when I decided to take my hair growth seriously and eliminate the things that were damaging my hair. It was the best thing I did for my hair. If you want, you can get a jilbere ceramic flat iron. Those are really good and getting a lot of raves from the ladies here. What sort of rollers do you use at night? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Pebbles, I don't even have a rollers. Gosh, that would mean getting serious if I were to throw out my curling iron and blowdryer. I'm contemplating the caruso steam rollers. I just don't know about all of this...I'm starting to go into withdrawl already! *laughing* Seriously, what's the key to getting smooth hair without using heat?? I haven't tried it yet and I'm AFRAID!

There's the ponytail method, but I honestly don't use this as I wear my realxed hair in jumbo twists. Some ladies on the board have used the PT method and maybe able to help you there. That is another method.

I think the only heat device that women have used and loved is the ceramic flat iron. Apparantly the ions don't damage the hair because the iron has a postive charge and the hair has a negative charge.

LondonDiva, you can't do this to me! You can't mention something I don't have and then say something positive about it! I'll whip out the card, woman! *LAUGHING* Good God, now I'm thinking about the darn flat iron....

I think leaving the blowdryer alone is a great idea. Your hair will thank you for it.

Well, my hair had better know how to get to the place they're going to lock me up in. I'll for sure go crazy when my blow dryer and curling iron go away... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

How are you styling your hair now when you use your blowdryer and curling iron? Have you ever thought about doing roller sets? If you roller set your hair, you can wear it curly for a day or two and then you can wrap it for a smooth and sleek look. If you let us know how you currently wear your hair, maybe we can give you some suggestions on how to achieve that look without the use of a blowdryer or a curling iron. BTW, how often were you using the blowdryer and the curling iron?

BUMP!

I once tried to get by without my blow drier but had to give up! Air drying took forever, the look I ended up with was always too frizzy for me and I lost a lot of hair trying to comb thru it.

So now, I blow dry my hair once a week in what I consider 2 be a very very safe manner:

- On the lowest power level.
- Holding the drier well away from the hair
- With the air jet directed towards the roots and not the ends.
- With no oils/serums or anything else on it to reduce drying time.
- Moisturise and pull it into a bun b 4 it gets completely dry.
My blow drier and I remain firm friends

Curling irons terrify me tho'! I never use those...
