Since i have joined this board I have been pretty much consumed with my hair. I am desperately trying to get my hair to grow to about bra strap length. Although I am achieveing length, I am not maintaining thickness. My hair is extremely thin and now my hairline is becoming extremely sparse. I am also shedding like crazy-- i know my hair is not breaking because it comes oout at the root. Now i am getting severely depressed because I fell like I cannot reach my hair goal, or even if I do my hair will not be thick. Even the growth that I do get is extremely uneven-- one side of my head grows 1/3 inch per monmth and another part grows an inch a month. My mom wants me to cut off and start all over again but i keep going through this same cycle over and over again. So I am asking you ladies what I should do.

I pre shampoo my hair with oils-- Nexxus botanoil, then i shampoo with Breakthru shampoo then I deep condition with Either Moisturefuse or Motions mixed with either olive oil or botanoil, then I use a NaPCA spray, rinse, and spray Fantasia antibreakage spray and use Breakthru antibreakage lotion. I then grease my scalp, rollerset and I do not use heat and I relax every 3 months. I have not changed my diet so i have no idea where this shedding is coming from but it's starting to get to me now. I need your help ASAP! thank you all!

It may be one of the products you are using...or just stress(it you are really stressig from your hair...it'll shed...I've been there and done that).
Try going back and adding one of your products at a time. Why don't you try just doing a shampoo followed by an ACV rinse using distilled water and then a deep conditioning with Mizani Moisturefuze, oil and then maybe just put your hair in a loose bun and air dry to give it a rest. Sometimes too much manipulation is a problem(less is best). Then re-introduce one product at a time. You may find you don't need as many products.

Caster Oil is good for achieving thick hair. I also use Shem Min which is a hair supplement that is good for hair.

I feel you on the uneven growth and your worries over possibly having long thin hair.
My hair is like below collarbone length and its not thick at all, being that its very fine, my length is not even pronounced. I've seen women with hair as long as mine and it looks sooo much longer b/c its thicker. I've been takign 1000mg's of B-5 (when i remember) to eventually increase my hair thickness. You can try doing a color rinse to make your hair appear thicker until you eventually get what you want.
There is hope! I tried to even out my sides for the longest.. it wont happen. Since i dont wear myhair straight, its ot as noticeable. I will continue to grow it out uneven until i reach my first goal of healthy hair @ the length i'm at now. I'm not stressing it anymore.. I also aghree w/ sweetcoca as far as simplifying your regime, it has made all the difference for me!

Are you remembering to clarify every once in awhile?
Also, we all pretty much agree that it is not a good idea to apply grease to your scalp (petroleum, mineral oil formulations). If your scalp is dry perhaps you can try oiling it with a light oil such as jojoba with some rosemary essential oil added in. Also try the proven oil blend (do a search to find the thread, it isn't too old.)

wow thanks for all your response! Well I use CPR hairdressing on my scalp when it gets dry so could that be the problem? Ever since I began using this my hair has grown faster and I didnt experience shedding until a few months after I starting using it so I assumed that that wasnt the problem. I guess I will cut down on products and I haven't used an acv treatment so I will try that this weekend. Can someone post the directions for me? Once again I cannot thank you enough for all the advice! I'll keep you guys updated.

Do you think that your hair is overprocessed? It sounds like with all the shedding and breaking that it could be the chemicals. How do you handle your hair daily? Do you comb really hard, etc.? I'm guessing it's chemical related because you're doing everything else right as far as keeping your hair moisturized and stretching your touchups.

luvhair, I don't have a solution to your problem but I am sending you a hug cause I know the trama of loosing your hair. I am experienceing this now and really I feel as if I can't breath. This is the extent of my stress.

One suggestion perhaps you can lay of greasing your scap. Grease will clog your pores and not allow your hair to grow in fully.

hugs and luck to you {{{{{LuvHair}}}}}

Thank you guys so much for the support. I am really at my wits end. Today I washed my hair with ORS uplifting shampoo and then I did a reconstructor and then I used moisturfuse mixed with oil. Less hair came out but I know shedding is not gonna be solved instantly. I never thought about overprocessing because I thought that it resulted in breakage not shedding.

Hi Luvhair,

I'm feeling you on the thinning hair. I'm dealing with a thinning crown area. Sometimes I get depressed when I look at that area, but I remind myself that it has gotten much, much better. I'm doing the Proven Oil Blend and I keep my hair in twists for 2months. Also, I heard Vit E can help with the hair line. Some people experience more breakage from going so long in between relaxing. And have you thought about wearing protective styles, twists, cornrows or plaits (not tight/larger sections)---maybe the daily handling is causing breakage.

I hope thing get better

Are you brushing your hair alot?
What kind of brush are you using?
Do you wear ponytail bands that may rip hair out?
Are you covering your hair with a satin/silk scarf at night?
How often do you trim your hair?

Try to consider these questions ...

Like the other ladies said, limit the amount of products you use. I think you will find your hair will thrive more on less product. Try pure coconut oil and a little castor oil on the scalp. Since you are relaxed you can try a hennalucence dark color. The henna will help thicken your hair too. Many of the other ladies can testify, not only with it thicken, it will add shine, detangling capabilities, and extra extra softness.

If you are interesting and haven't already join the Hennaphilic Gals thread. Grrrrrrreeaattt info.

Take vitamin B5 also and the rest of the B vit. to complement it. Currently I am taking somewhere between 500-1500 I am not consistent on the amounts.

I can't add much more advice. Just wanted you to know you're not alone. I had a shedding experience back in January due to medication. I thought I was going to lose my mind over it. Hair was coming out by the handfuls.

I've been using the proven hair growth oil several times a week and upped my vitamin intake. I'm finally starting to see little hairs growing.

Here's praying that you'll get things turned around really soon!

Hada-- i use a brush once a week with a soft boar bristle brush. I wear my hair pulled back in a bun with a satinbut I loosen the sides. I always wear a satin scarf at night. I have cut back on prodcts but thats why I am afraid to add henna to my regimen. But I am extremely interested in henna and lotus powder and integrating them into my regimen.

My hair is definitely thinning at the crown but it is also thinning through the whole head. Tomorrow I am going to start following bargello's plan and I am trying to get the oils for the proven blend. Are there any other suggestions?

I'm saddened to hear this

but hang in there you'll get out of this, I would suggest massaging your scalp with oil to stimulate growth and relax yourself in general b/c stressing out does not help. I wouldn't worry about different lenths or growth on either sides of your head, everybody has that in some way so when you reach a goal then even it out, but for now just let the shorter side play catch up to the longer side.
Be patient and don't loose hope. we're here for you.

Good News!!! I have been nurturing my hair and I broke down and got a touch up and I am really glad that I did! I think that part of the problem-- if you can even call it that-- was my hair grew A LOT! Parts of my hair grew 2 inches and I got a touch up 2 months ago. Now I have parts of my hair that touches the top of my brastrap! so only about 5 inches to go!

Thanks for all the tips! Usually my hair grows to a certain length-- around an inch- and then it begins to dredlock. My hair was doing that majorly so I decided to get it touched up. But before I did i did a reconstructor and my hair thickened up a bit. My hair is still thinning at the edges so I am gonna start he proven oil blend on them. When I reach my hair goal I am gonna keep cutting my hair until I have an even length. I took pics of my hair and I wil be posting my first hair pics soon!
