Which one would you recommend and why? What are the pro's or con's? Also do you know a good brand that has a pretty and rich Mahoghany? thanks in advance, Karima

It depends on what color you're trying to achieve. You can only go darker with a semi, but lighter with a permanent color. Let us know which you prefer.

I've only used semi (aka rinses) on my hair. I only use them to cover up my gray strands. So, I stick to my natural hair color which is dark brown.

Mahogany eh? That's like a reddish brown, correct? If so, I think a semi-permanent could possibly do the trick. Not sure though.

I certainly think you could get the "deeper" look of a Mahoghany color with a semi-perm. I always advocate semi-perms as a first resort before trying a perm - especially if you aren't looking to "lift" your shade (lighten it) because there is little to no damage potential depending on the formula you use, with semi-perms. You can screw this up over and over again and all you will need to correct is a color you don't love as opposed to that on top of breakage and dryness - the effect of permie color on some heads (again depending on the brand and the forumla you use even this can be avoided - but it should still be the last resort). I have been able to permie color successfully and if you are, again, looking for a lighter look and some longevity to your color, it COULD be the way to go. but I say try a semi-perm first. And I say get the color right before you go any further with non temporary formulas - even if long lasting color is ultimately something you think you might want in the longer term you want to make sure you get the color you want. If you use semi-permanent color it can be easier to correct and there is rarely residual damage to consider after all is said and done.

I recommend Sebastian Mahoghany - a nice, rich , auburn brown for your first try.

Good Luck!
