I have natural hair that I would like to relax myself. What tips do you have? (Forgive me, I know there's already stuff like this posted but sometimes it's a little overwhelming to look through so many posts.)

Thanks!!

Hi and :welcome:

There is a self relaxer support thread which is very helpful http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=157899&highlight=self+relax+support

Can I ask if you've had a relaxer before? If not I think to self relax virgin hair is going to be extremely daunting. I would really consider seeing a reputable stylist rather than trying this yourself first.

If you still want to go ahead and self relax, please ensure you read and research the dos and don'ts as there is a lot of information to take in.

Good luck!

like cream tee said if this will be your first relaxer then go to a stylist, doing a self relaxer on a virgin head will take too much time and you don't want to over process your hair. because i'm sure you know with the virgin hair you'd have to relax all the hair and run the relax through your whole head.

But if you still have hair that was previously relaxed just relax new growth.
I use optimum anti-breakage relaxer in regular it comes with gloves neutralizing shampoo, and even a pre treatment that you put on your previously relaxed hair if you have.

I've had relaxers in the past but currently I don't have one. I really wish I did know a stylist or someone who could do it for me. But I'm kind of new in the area and I don't know any.

I've read so many post about what to do and not to do to grow hair and it seems like many stylist don't know this information. I guess that's why I'm not afraid to do it myself. I also don't feel like I have anything to lose since I've been thinking of cutting it.

Again, thanks for the help.
