self relaxers?

when relaxing, do you have to apply relaxer underneath your hair, or is the top enough? to clarify, I mean you know how you part then apply on top of your new growth, well do you then apply underneath that section as well?

I usually do apply on both sides so that I can get the perm on all of the new growth. This could take more time, but then again I perm half of my hair one week and the other half the following week.

I do - did both sides

I only do 1 side. When you make the parts and apply the relaxer, the hair will lay down on the previously applied relaxer making the relaxer get on both sides.
