Please i need some help. I've tried elsasta qp mango butter and it dried out my hair and the smell practically suffocated me. Ors olive oil weighed my hair down. ors carrot oil stinks. the only thing that has worked for me so far has been elasta qp recovery oil moisturiser. its light weight, smells nice but...the first ingredient listed on the bottle is mineral oil. My hair started breaking a little and i suspect its the mineral oil. What about keracare oil moisturiser with jojoba oil. Im thinking of trying castor oil but i need another oil to mix with it. Can i mix it with jojoba oil to reduce the consistency? My hair is fine so it gets weighed own easily and i wash eevry 3 days. What about sweet almond oil? I just need sth like a daily moisturiser please!!!! Btw it's not uber dry but i just want to keep it moisturised

Why not try natural oil itself just like jojoba. It is very light you can use it alone or mixed with avocado oil which is light also.

I am currently using and enjoying Carol's daughter--Some of Margurites's Magic. It is thick but I rub it between my palms vigorously and that melts it into liquid form. I love that it has natural oils, essential fatty acids. I stay away from Mineral Oil too and I was on the mango butter for a bit but realizzed because it is waterbased, it disappears to quickly and my hair needs oil.

The ingredients in Carol Daughter Some of Margurite's Magic are:
corn, soy, sweet almond, and wheat germ oils, water, beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, essential oil of lavender, hyacinth fragrance sodium borate [mineral emulsifier].

The website is: www.carolsdaughter.com

Right now, im using jojoba cos thats the only oil i have at home. its lightweight but not moisturising enough. Im thinking of mixing it with sweet almond oil. Is that a good moisturising oil? How about castor oil? And nexxus is my conditioner. I have the NTM serum but it doesnt moisturise it. all it does it make it shine. I checked the verifen website and that oil is expensive. I have both wgho and s-curl. Wgho stinks and is too heavy for my hair and s-curl makes my hair really dry and plasticky. i also tried stasoffro and it makes my hair hard too. i think that's cos of the protein. I might try some sort of oil mixture but i dont know the ones that are moisturising. i'll also try the "some of marguerite's magic" too

I like UBH Moisterizur and also Silk Elements Lotion Moisterizer at Sally's. Neither has mineral oil and is very light and makes hair soft and pliable.

I'm also searching for a good daily moisturizer... right now I'm using Profectiv Breakfree... it's okay, but I'm still looking for something better!! :p I've used UBH Moisturizer in the past... that's also good, but it's too expensive by the time you pay for shipping... I do use oils, like Surge and Hot Six but I find that my hair needs more moisture than that (I oil my hair AFTER I moisturize it...)

My Profectiv is just about finished so I need to find something else to try, FAST!! :drowning: Please keep the suggestions coming ladies... I'm gonna be near the BSS this afternoon!!!

don't waste your money on the marguerite's magic. If elasta mango butter was too thick for your hair, then the marguerite's magic will be WAY too thick!

AB Organic's Shea Butter & Tea Tree Oil Moisturizing Lotion

That one sounds good... I love products with shea butter!! I'm going to check this one out today... Thanks! ;)

NTM Sheer Hydration Leave-in foam if your hair is thin (like mine!) If not the NTM Silk Touch Leave-in. They are both water-based, have some oil but not too much and the foam leaves no residue. The Silk Touch one does leave residue for me but it's made for people with thicker strands than mine.

BTW NTM Sheer Hydration practically melts into my hair!

the NTM sheer hydration made my hair hard. I think i probably used too much but i returned it anyways. I'll try the UBH moisturiser. Where can i get it?

Hi Miracle, where can you buy this? Thanks in advance for your response.:)

Nyambura, I bought my bottle from Target for $0.48!! If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll send you a bottle.

uh..i just found out the keracare also has mineral oil in it
The Keracare Essential Oils for the Hair doesn't have any mineral oil. The main ingredients are: sunflower seed oil, peanut oil, castor oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, sesame oil, aloe vera oil, almond oil and olive oil. It's pretty good, I like it.

Hey Dolapo - I just noticed NTM Sheer Hydration has Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein! Protein in moisturisers is a no-no according to the Cathy Howse method. That's why it made your hair hard!

For my daily moisturizing I have now switched to doing 2 things: first using Loreal Vive Smooth Intense Conditioner for Dry, Frizzy hair to smooth down my cuticles. I don't rinse it out. This ensures that my hair doesn't break when I try to detangle and gives me a lot of "slip". Then I use my UBH moisturiser that has the oils I need. My very loosely curled 4a, natural hair is not hard at all after this treatment and I am able to manipulate it without seeing a alot of very short hairs!

HTH!!

Dolapo,
I had a very similar problem to you and my hair is pretty similar to yours -- it's fairly thin. One of the things that I noticed is that many of the leave-ins that you used contain either propelyne glycol, glycerine or protein. It's good that you are also staying aways from the mineral oil.

What works well for me is the UBH conditioner (www.ubhpublications.com, I think). It is expensive if you buy it in small sizes. Once you've tried it and decided that you like it I would recommend that you buy the biggest size that you can find. I diluted it a bit with jojoba oil so that it would stretch and I would get some of the benefits of the jojoba oil. UBH is creamy and it has an olive oil base. It is not perfect, but it's the best product I've been able to find so far.

Is it actually called AB or does the AB have a meaning. I want to try to search for it at my local target. Or is it that Aubrey/Audrey organics line
?

I am still looking for the perfect daily moisturizer as well.
I tried the Motions Anti-breakage hair lotion. I didnt like it. Will continue to use on my daughter natural hair which seems to work better for her.

Dalapo,
Your hair reminds me of my hair. I can't use leave-ins or styling products that contain certain types of proteins. I also don't like to use serums because they dry my hair out. S-Curl or too much Sta-sof-fro leaves my hair hard. The kind of products I use depends on the hairstyle. If I'm wearing it in a bun, I'll use Carefree Curl Gold Activator. Have you tried it? It may have a little wheat protein in it but, it makes your hair super soft. Wheat protein is not the problem for me, the keratin protein and collagen is what makes my hair hard and brittle. Carefree curl Gold may be too moist for you to wear your hair down.

Some other good ones are Motions Salon Herbals Mango Butter, 100% pure shea butter and Paul Mitchells Awapuhi Moisture Mist. Another tip is to apply these products to damp (freshly washed/conditioned) hair to seal in the moisture. Oils don't add moisture, they just lock it in.

You may want to re-evaluate the type of conditioners you are using for moisure too.
