Save My Hair!!!!

I have issues for you all. My previously beautiful, thick, 4a-b, sturdy hair has gone dry and brittle. It changed almost six years ago when I was pregnant with my son. I haven't been able to do anything with it since. I even cut it all off and wore a short natural( April '01). I am at the point where I'm ready to wear a wig. My hair is ear length all the way around and I'm shooting for 4 inches below bra strap by fall 2005. Right now its brittle and dry. I've been off the heat for about a month, I take all of the recommended supplements and wash and condition every three days. I also roller set so as not to look too crazy. I am desperate and near tears. Please help!

your post somewhat seems similar to what another member wrote. But you need to wait for some other posts,but just decribe some more of your hair conditions.

Are you natural now?
How were you using heat to style your hair B4 U went on the no heat regimen?
What products do you use?
Dont cry sweetheart. And don't take your frustration out on your hair. Every day your follicules churn out a total of 42.5M of hair; please be patient with it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1/2 an inch per month = 1.28 cm a month = 0.0426 cm a day
100,000 ( No. of hairs on your head) X 0.0426 cm = 4266.6 cm a day = 42.7M of hair EVERY DAY!!!
People please be patient with your hair.... coz its trying really hard 2 please u...
I always ask the question "How do you get your hair so long?" of a woman I see with long gorgeous hair...
9 times out of 10...you konw what they say?..."Nothing"...that is frustratingly...simple...
Leave it alone...
Dont add heat (which you have wisely stopped)
Dont add chemicals
Dont manipulate it...(Nice bun...I personally think braids can add to your problem but some have had success with that)
Dont use shampoo...too drying (conditioner washes only)
Dont use protien...if your hair is natural.
Dont use a comb...unless your hair is soaking wet...or covered in conditioner...
However there are some "do's"
Do drink a lot of water...
Do use humectant shampoos so that moisture will be drawn INTO your hair...
Do add glycerine to your leave in conditioner if you use it..
Do add rosemary oil to your leave in conditioner if you use it...
Do use shea butter for twist or braids if you choose to do that (twist would be gentler on your hair...shea butter will make your hair so soft...it will scare you!)
Do deep conditionings....with olive oil added to your conditioner...
If you still have a perm...stay away from Surge for a while...but if you are natural...try it...if your hair continues to break...leave it alone.
I wore a great transition style (for me) that allowed my hair to rest for a couple of days between washings...I needed to do conditioner washes in the beginning very frequently...but this style was easy...and it put no stress on my hair...feel free to check out my album to see it.
Hope the suggestions help.
I am currently relaxed. I am trying to hold out until I can wear a protective style. Ladies, help me get there please.
I also have the same goal you are looking forward too, also the hair growth. I will see all you chikas lata, G Nite
The only thing I would add is protien conditioners then...
It is fixable...dont fret too much over it...
Go ahead and break any bad habits you may have...and give your hair all the water it can hold...if there is something particularly stressful going on in your life...that will show up in your hair...so definitely find some way to cope...Add lavender oil to your deep conditioner...it relaxes your mind.
It will get better...give it time...
I don't really have a shampoo that I use regularly yet. I'm open to suggestions. I don't think my water is particularly hard. Last night I washed my hair using a Biolage type shampoo and a mayo conditioner. I sat under the dryer and deep conditioned for about an hour. That seemed to work pretty good, so maybe there's hope.
Hi Brismom,
Pookeylou gave u some excellent tips
Here's a lil tip that works for me... try sleeping with a plastic conditioning bag on ur hair. Moisturize ur hair like u would normally do, then cover with a plastic cap. U may wanna cover the cap with ur satin bonnet to keep the cap from "crunching" all night long.
Oh yeah, speaking of satin bonnets, do u cover ur hair with a satin/silk bonnet or scarf every night... or sleep on a satin/silk pillow case? If not, START TONIGHT!!! Your cotton pillow case is absorbing all of the moisture from ur hair...
If the overnight plastic cap doesn't help, then try an overnight moisturizing conditioning treatment. I prefer LustraSilk Aloe Cholesterol or Motions Moisture Plus. After ur poo, apply ur conditioner, leave it on overnight, rinse in the AM. Most of the time, I don't even poo 1st... I'll just apply the conditioner to my dry hair then rinse in the AM.
Oh, here's 1 more thing... try *warming* ur moisturizing conditioner b4 applying it (after pooing). Cuz ur ends are the most brittle, try to always apply ur condition to ur ends FIRST. This way ur ends will benefit from having the conditioner on the longest....
.... I'm still thinking...
I'm wishing u the best with ur hair... I know how frustrating it can be
