Sally's raised prices!

I came out of hiding to say that not only have they raised their prices but some things have gone down in terms of quality.

I recently went to go buy a package of plastic shower caps. Usually they're less than 2.99 for a package of 30 but now they're 3.99 :( Not to mention that the elastic is not what it used to be-- it's all flimsy and I have to throw one away after each use :(

Well isn't it funny that they are raising prices and boosting profits at the same time:scratchch.

Denton-based Sally Beauty reported Thursday a 63 percent increase in fiscal first-quarter profits and posted higher sales from a year ago.

The retailer and wholesaler of beauty supplies and hair products has benefitted during the downturn from shoppers turning to its stores for at-home products in between fewer visits to salons.

The company reported profit of $26.1 million, or 14 cents a share, in the fiscal first quarter ended Dec. 31, up from $16.1 million, or 9 cents a share, a year ago. Excluding items, the company earned 13 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected a profit of 14 cents a share on revenue of $692 million.

Sales rose 9 percent to $704.9 million as value-conscious shoppers try to save money and do more salon-type styling at home.

Same-store sales increased 3.8 percent. Total store count at the end of the quarter was 3,935, an increase of 166 stores from the same-time last year.

“We had a strong first quarter and a good start to the new year,” chief executive officer Gary Winterhalter said during a conference call this morning.

In December, the company acquired Sinelco Group NV, a wholesale distributor of professional beauty products in Europe, for approximately $37 million in cash. Sinelco is based in Ronse, Belgium, and serves more than 1,500 customers in 35 countries through a product catalog, Web site and sales offices in Belgium, France and Italy.

Really? That sucks was it the Salon Care Brand? I used to love buying their stuff including the big pack of shower caps. But I did notice that beginning of this year I went in and none of the stuff had prices. Like when you could see the sally's price and the member prices none of them had any prices listed at all. I had to ask the check out girl all of the prices.

I went to Sally's yesterday and I notice they had jacked up the price even more than what it is usually jacked up to. I looked at the circular and they had coupons, but when you looked at the price minus whatever deduction the coupon gave, it was still higher than what I paid for some of the items last month. I was looking at the Aphogee 2 min and a few other items. Also I noticed they have gone up on the plastic caps. I went to another local BSS right down the street (B&P on Winchester and Kirby for the Memphis folks) and some items were up to 2.00 cheaper. I'm not a loyal customer to any particular store, I go where my money can go farther.
