For those with type 4 hair (relaxed or natural) who have tried Sabino Moisture Block ...

Does it REALLY work against humidity?

If so, how well? How many days? Etc.

Is it worth it?

TIA!

Type 4 something here. It works and works very well, however it leaves a coating and blocks moisture on my hair. I have no option but to wash every 3 days if I use it.

I felt it has worked well for me. I worked out with my trainer a couple of days after I used it and it did not revert. It made me a little nervous to think my hair may not get back to its kinky self. But once I washed it out my hair was just a beautiful coils as if I never flat ironed it to straight. I like the product and whenever I go to the salon to get it pressed I take it with me.

On a side not I got an email the other day about them wanted to change the name to something with the word "frizz" which makes me wonder if they are going to change formula as well.

SMB is great and will not revert. However, I have experienced a little puffy roots when I sweat. I then bantu knot and wear knot outs until I'm ready to wash.
I have dense 4a/b hair with major shrinkage.
Its worth every penny. Off to order some more right now...

Worked great for me. I used way too much, so be careful or your hair will turn into a greaseball.

I am also a natural 4a/mostly 4b and it worked GREAT for me!! I used it for my coming out show and it was pleasantly surprized that I did not look like a PUFF the magic dragon!! LOL

Yes, yes yes.... this is my only issue with using SMB. Don't get me wrong. I love this stuff and it really works but I get dull dry thirst-looking hair days after. I'm only reserving it for special days and formal ocassions.

Hm, now I'm intrested in trying this stuff. Do I have to order online or is it sold in stores? I read somewhere that they carry it in Trade Secrets, is this true?

I love using it on my natural hair doing twists or buns or even if I do a cool setting on the blow dryer.

It gives my hair a little sheen and softness.

I like it.

OP, I'm 4a natural and it works great on my hair. The only time my hair waved up (not totally reverted, just waved up) was when I forgot my umbrella on a stormy day and got caught in heavy rain three separate times.

Other than that, a misty or drizzly day is nothing. My edges do get wavy after a few days, but I also do the thirty splashes method when I wash my face everyday.

Overall, my hair looks like a fresh flatiron until the next time I wash it - no puffiness or frizz. And my hair reverts completely when I shampoo it - no straight sections.

Has anyone ever purchased Sabino in stores, or is it only available online?

I'd like to get my hair pressed this weekend, and I wouldn't have time to order it.

The only store I ever purchased Sabino from was Ulta, but that was my very first bottle a long while back. I haven't seen it there in a while.

I will add that cranking up the flat iron to 450 degrees is not the best thing - even with SMB..... I learned the hard way on this.... trust me.

If you apply enough moisture before putting on MB as a seal, you can get through a week. I wouldn't push it any longer because it will lock in that moisture and as your hair uses it, it will not be able to get any more. I've never had a problem w/ breakage either.
Love it.

I'm 4a w. some 3c

I'm so glad someone you asked this question! I spent about 2.5 hours doing my hair and walked outside and looked like a fuzzball. I mean full reversion I am so angry. My question is, do you use only the SMB, or and you use a heat protectant and some type of oil?

hmmm.. *sighs* the PJ in me shall arise again.. This sounds like exactly what I need. I went to the salon for a press (the avatar pic).. The day after, I woke up and my fro was back...I sweat in my head ...and I obviously got hot that night and reverted back.. This sounds like something that can help this.. I Loveee u gals!!!

Okay this is pretty much what I was going to say. I find that SMB does an awesome job guarding against reversion in the humidity. When I work out it's a slightly different story though. I think there are a few reasons for that though.

I don't seem to do a great job of getting the product on my roots/newgrowth

When I workout I SWEAT

So the problems are more so with me than the product itself. I am all for SMB.

I am relaxed 4a and I loved the way that it worked on my relaxed hair. It makes my relaxed hair feel different - good different. But when i was weeks post my natural hair roots seemed to get a little puffy. People are saying their roots got puffy so maybe that is normal.

I was thinking of transitioning during that time and SMB scared me away from that b/c of how it didn't work on my roots. But I use it for my relaxed rollersets all the time.

I give it a thumbs down. I tried it once and it did not stop reversion after a night skating. My CHI SI + Aveda anti humectant pomade works much better at blocking reversion for my type 4 hair. I think exercising is the real test for these "moisture blocking claims".

My hair stays straight (except the roots, which gets puffy within 2 days) with sabino, BUT man was my hair dry i always make sure to moisterize well before hand but it still dries it out, i decided to try another humidity blocker instead this time (we shall see if this one does better)

It works okay for me; but not great. Althoug my hair doesn't completely revert, it gets puffy after day 2. Mind you, it doesn't get as puffy as prior to using SMB, but it doesn't stay completely straight. After reading this thread, I think maybe I don't have enough moisture on my hair prior to using the SMB and I am not getting enough of the product to my roots. I might give it another try tonight or tomorrow and attempt to rectify these two problems. I'll see how it holds up then. I hope it can work because hubby really likes my hair straight.

I have 3/4 mixture and Sabino works better as an overnight seal and anti-frizz smoother. As far as repelling humdity no. My hair still puffed up over a few days but it held out better than it would without it. It could be that my iron was not up high enough. I don't use high heat because I usually get heat damage.

But what I find amazing about it is that when I use Sabino as a sealer WITHOUT HEAT; the next morning my twists were soooo smooth like I ran the flat iron over it. No frizz whatsoever.
