I've had horrible luck straightening my hair even if I use heat protectants. I've tried the Chi silk infusion, thermal spray, Nexxus heat protectant, etc, but I always end up with split ends after straightening my hair. I remember going to the salon to get my hair flat ironed twice. The last time I had a trim to get rid of the splits and my hair looked great, but once I got it straightened again, the splits were back. It just seems like nothing is really protecting my hair from heat.

So, my question is, if you're using Sabino Moisture Block as a heat protectant, has it really been protecting your hair and helping to prevent damage/split ends that you usually get from using direct heat? Or, is it mostly used to help your hair from reverting?

Please vote in the poll.

maybe it's the condition of your ends before you've applied the heat. A pre-existing split's going to be there regardless of what damage/heat protectant you use to straighten. I don't think flat-ironing creates splits overnight. Or possibly the combing/brushing/styling methods you're using after you've straightened that's adversely affecting your ends.

I would have agreed to this before I had my trim. However, I had my ends trimmed in August, and they were very healthy without any split ends. I had it flat ironed, and I saw splits again.:wallbash: idk

Wish I had an answer :(

I was thinking, next time you wash your hair before a straightening session, use a heavy protein (aphogee, etc.) to treat your ends (JUST your ends) rinse them off, do a deep moisturizing conditioner, dry your hair however you do then flatiron as you usually do with the sabino.

ETA: by "ends" I mean like the last 2-3 inches of your hair. ;)

Maybe your ends just need the extra protection?

Here is my two cents... I do rollerset once or twice a week. i usually do a search and destroy 1nce a week and find about 5 or 6 splits each time. Plus, I usually wear my hair in a bun. Well I started using silk and seal for my rollerset and missed about 2 weeks of seach and destroys, plus I was wearing my hair down a lot more and not wearing a headtie for a couple of night (satin sheet set) and only had 3 split ends when I did my search and destroy. Silk and seal has the same ingredients as sabino.

I believe it can help protect the hair from splits, if you apply it right. I use it really heavy handed on the ends, and on the roots, and then brush through with my denman before flat ironing. Also, I agree w/ the others that your hair has to be free of split ends, in tip top condition when you start. Nothing can repair, as we all know, but I do believe that sabino protects, because I've used it repeatedly and just don't see split ends. I may be due for a trim in a month or so, but only because I like to trim every six months or so. As for splits, I'm just not seeing them, but I do deep condition HEAVILY. That's what works for my hair.

Thanks! I guess I just need to start taking better care of my ends.

The only reason I never trimmed regularly is because I'm constantly doing the search and destroy. I think I'll have to trim again when I take down my sew-in, and then can start taking much better care of my ends.

I'll definitely try this. Thanks!!!

Hey Ediese have you seen the Sabino Moisture Block out here anywhere? Everuwhere I call they act like they dont know what I am talking about.

I was just going to post that. I did some looking around online, and amazon has it the cheapest I've seen including shipping. It came up to $23.98.

I just bought a 2-pack for $28.99 plus $6 shipping from this seller on eBay. Before purchasing I made sure to ask if the product is new/never opened/never mixed and not old product. The seller has a 100% Positive Feedback rating. Here's what the seller responded:
" Yes, these are brand new and never opened. I usually order these every few weeks directly from the manufacturer, so they are very fresh. I never buy close outs or overstocks. You can bid with confidence.
Have a great day!

I have made by last two purchases of Sabino from this seller. I have not had any problems with the moisture block I have received.

What is Silk and Seal and where can it be purchsed if you don't mind me asking?

I got it in the beauty supply store next to my house. You can get it anywhere that sells keracare products. it's keracare silken seal. it's essentially a serum that you can use when rollersetting or using heat.

Yes I believe Sabino protects against split ends because it coats the hair shaft protecting it so that it won't split in the first place BUT if you already have split ends all it does is 'glue' them together. Temporary fix and when you wash you will see them. So it is good to make sure all or at least most splits are gone before using MB otherwise you won't be able to tell if it's working for you. This is a pretty high grade of silicone not the cheapie stuff so like luckiestdestiny said pay close attention to the ends when applying and you should be fine.

I am going to look for this. I asked for a sample of Sabino from their site twice but I never got it so I need to find an alternative. thanks
