I emailed Softsheen Carson and requested the pH for this product as it is advertised as having a "low pH". Here is the response I received.

Thank you for your interest in Roots of Nature Conditioning Relaxer.

The pH levels used in relaxers, perms and straighteners are set at levels to allow for the successful transformation from the hair's natural structure to the desired structure while having minimal impact on the integrity of the hair. The pH of this product is lower than the average relaxer, the exact pH is proprietary

The follow up products used after this type of process will restore the hair to its natural pH.

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for using Soft Sheen · Carson products.

Sincerely,

The bolding above is not mine. This is how I received the email.

Soooo...what do you think? I don't appreciate these companies not being willing to be honest about the pH balances of their relaxers. If they hope to compete with Phyto, they should at least indicate a pH range like Phyto does.

Who has experience with this relaxer? TIA!

That's some booty. Just buy some pH test strips and see what the pH really is. Most relaxers are somewhere between the 11-14 range (yes, 14)

so the pH is "proprietary: copyrighted, trademarked, owned, private, registered, patented, exclusive??"

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thank you. That was an insult. She just KNOWS black women do not have a CLUE about the dangers of relaxers huh? "Proprietary"? And, the fact that she bolded it added to my irritation....as if to say, "whoa, whoa, back up kizzy...don't you worry about what the pH is...just stfu and come and make your purchase." :nono:

I sent her a response informing her that I would be posting her response to the tens of thousands of LHCF members as we are all very interested in researching pH levels of relaxers.

I was considering trying it but her response put that interest to rest. I'd rather pay the $60 for phyto than risk my hair on a product after being told to mind my own business about it.

Has anyone used the ph strips to test?

I doubt it. Would be nice to know if someone did though. I think it's a newer relaxer? My thing about the test strips is, in the test strip thread on relaxer ph, a lot of ladies were getting varying readings for the same relaxers, IIRC.

I'm still stuck on a the fact that this line is supposed to dub itself something geared towards natural hair but yet still sells relaxer kits. How comical!

I purchased this relaxer in June due to the "low pH" label, tried to research it, but could not find anything. I ended up relaxing with Phyto.

That response from the company bothers me. Has anyone tried this relaxer yet?

This relaxer probably doesn't even have a low ph and hence the reason the company won't tell or the specialist didn't know.

The relaxer I use has the ph written on the box 6.0 and I have yet to see a traditional relaxer with a ph less than 9.
