**Rollerse with Pics - Advice Needed**

Ok, this was my second attempt at rollersetting. The first time my hair was a hot mess and I ended up pressing/flat ironing to make it managable. Everyone keeps saying that with practice your rollersets become better and I agree, although I still have a few kinks I need you all to help me out with. :drunk: Here's what I did:

** I washed with Giovoni's 50:50 Hydrating/Clarifying Shampoo

** I used Banana Brulee to DC - I sat under my soft bonnet dryer for about 30 minutes and then left the conditioner on another 3 hours as I did chores around the house. Banana Brulee works wonders on my hair (after I clarified, my hair feels striped and easily tangles. I just slathered the brulee on and took a wide tooth comb and combed through my hair with no problem and very little loss of hair)! It's so soft and moisturized after I use it.

** I only partially rinsed out the conditioner. It works so well for me that I just left some in instead of adding a leave-in. I towel-dried my hair just to keep it from dripping all over the place and then:
  • Applied Redken's Heat Glide liberally all over my hair
  • Used a little Nourish & Shine around the edges of my hair to help it lay down
  • After sectioned with a wide tooth comb, used a rattail to smooth
  • Sprayed LottaBody on each section (I used just a bit, probably 1/2 part LottaBody to 4 parts water. I heard if you use too much it can make your hair crunchy and I didn't want that. I sprayed the solution on my hands and it felt just a bit sticky and thought it should be ok and it was for me)
  • Smoothed each section again using a boar brush before rolling
** I used Poka's ponytail method for rollersetting - thanks Poka! This worked well because I wasn't struggling with having enough space as I rolled my hair. I sat under the dryer for about an hour - I used high heat for 40 minutes and turned it down to medium heat for the next 20. My hair still wasn't dry, so took my son for a walk so it could air dry and ended up having to use the blow dryer. My hair takes forever to dry. Anyway, here are some pics, and no, I don't do drugs - please excuse the crazy look on my face! :lachen:

** I took out the rollers and I'm actually happy at this point. It looks like my roots are straight and my curls have body and shine

**When I took out the rubberbands and looked at my hair closely, I saw waves and indentations from the rubberbands. I decided to try the saran wrap method to help tame my hair. Wrapping it was difficult; I used a wide tooth comb and did the best I could. I tied a silk scarf around the saran wrap to help it lay my hair down even more - not sure if I should have done this or not. I sat under the dryer another 20 minutes, then wrapped my hair in a silk scarf and went to bed. In the morning my hair looked like this:

I liked the body, but because I want my hair to look smooth and without the waves, I pressed the roots and it came out pretty good. I guess I'm not going to be able to get around this because my hair is naturally curly. If anyone has any suggestions or tips, I'd appreciate it!

Your set turned out great. My roots come out bumpy when I do the ponytails set as well. When I do the mohawk method (in my dec '07 album), it saves me a lot of head space. In addition to this, I roll upward and secure the roller with a clamp AND a bobby pin. My roots come out smoothest with this method. I also have type 3 something hair and my hair comes out perfectly smooth :-)

Thanks, Kb. I'll take a look in your folki so I can see how it's done. Hopefully that method will help to smooth out my roots. :drunk:

I agree that your set turned out beautifully! It probably will be really tough to not have bumps or waves when you use the rubber-band method. I also use the mohawk method which turns out really smooth. There are soooooo many tutorials. And although setting can be frustrating once you've got it.... you've got it! :wacky:

(used to take me 40 min to set, I'm down to 20 min)

And again, nice job.

Thanks ladies for the compliments/encouragement. :drunk: Kimba I'm going to try the mohawk method - Kb suggested using a bobby pin and clamp to secure the roller, so I'll try that. LadyD, shescentit.com is the place where I got the Banana Brulee. You can also do a search and you'll see others comments on the brulee and other products she makes. :yep:

Your hair looks great I just think you need a little practice to get your hair to do what you want. Your hair looks very thick and healthy. GOOD JOB!

It turned out really good! You have beautiful hair! I just did a ponytail set the other day and I thought my hair would never dry:wallbash:. I was so irratated at the end of that long process but the results were great.

Really pretty. Hate to hijack but, did you find the 50/50 shampoo drying? It almost instantly dried my hair until I drowned it with conditioner. I'm afraid to use it again.
