Relaxing Questions For Relaxed and Natural Ladies

I have been perming my hair for about 10 years. I have always permed the whole hair from root to tip. I usually go about 3 or 4 months between relaxers. Touch ups are for new growth only right? Previously relaxed hair should never be relaxed again? Also for ladies that had relaxer and went natural, if you decided to get a relaxer again would the hair be considered "virgin" hair again?

naw ma, you shouldn't be applying that stuff from root to tip at all unless you are completely natural. the only exception would be for a corrective where you hair was unintentionally underprocessed first time around or you are going from a texlaxed look to a straighter look.

touch-ups are just that, you're going to relax your new growth only.

no, previously relaxed hair should never be re-relaxed (unless for a corrective treatment).

and yes, anyone who was relaxed, went natural then decided to go back to relaxer, their hair is virgin hair and the entire hair shaft (from root to tip) would need the relaxer applied to it.

Thanks for the responses. I will be sure to not do that anymore. That's just how my mom did my hair so I just followed her lead even after reading the instructions. Well I know now and I can change it. Maybe my hair will actually thicken back up. You know what's silly. I've always been scared to apply a relaxer just to the roots thinking in some off way I'm going to mess up my hair.

I used to relax all the way to the ends too. I thought that's what you were SUPPOSED to do, everyone I knew pulled their relaxer to the ends.

Even when I read the instructions that said to only apply to the newgrowth, I'd be like '' WHATever, that's stupid. Why wouldn't you put the relaxer on your ends?'' And I wondered why I could never even make SL

Thanks again for the comments. I haven't relaxed since Febuary 1. I plan to in April. I don't know how long I want to go. My new growth isn't giving me any trouble. I always wondered why I couldn't get the perm on and off in the time they said. I look forward to the new thickness. My hair has been a real trooper. Before I found LHCF I didn't know a thing about moisturizing or conditioning. I only permed and if I felt like it sometimes I'd slap some type of grease on it.

Thanks, I will look. Mistakenly I thought I knew all there was to know about relaxing my hair. What a joke. I just loving being in the company of people who know so much more than I do.

Wow, your mom and my mom are from the same school. I always used to relax my hair this way. Thank God my hair never fell out.
