Relaxing every month

lulu your hair does look very thick and healthy but you don't often see the results of damage onto years and years of relaxing. if i were you i would try to space them out for longer. if you can i would say try and go for 8 weeks.(if you don't have too much breakage)
good luck

/images/graemlins/drowning.gif 8 weeks? Eek! I'm going to start stretching them out little by little...no promises!

Your hair is beautiful and healthy! Though I would be scared to perm that often, it looks like that monthly perm is working for you Girlfriend.

Thanks to this forum I am now getting past the 5 week mark. It's been since July, I'm just now getting a touch-up. That's a long time for me. However, I have to be extremely careful with making sure to moisturize, and butter my scalp.

The butters are heavier and help to get my hair to lay down. Also, Carol's Daughter's Healthy Hair butter is no joke. Profectiv Mega Growth and Elasta Recovery are also essential.

Now getting a relaxer every five weeks is out of the question, my hair is soft, and I have no breakage.

you ladies relax pretty often, but LuLu your hair looks fine. i relax every 16 weeks, thats when it start to become unmanageable. its easier to distinguish my 2 inches of new growth at 16 weeks also. back in my high school days i would do every 4-6 weeks, but i cant imagine doing that now. i think ive learned to take control over my new growth

Before I answered I wanted to see what your hair looked like. Your hair looks good but I would still be cautious about relaxing that often. When I first joined the board I thought I could only make it to 8 weeks but I'm up to every 12 weeks. This summer I went longer but I was wearing braids for 4 weeks at a time. Try stretching to 5 or 6 weeks first and then set a goal for longer. Good Luck to ya!

I agree, please try to stretch them out if you can. No, you CAN do it! /images/graemlins/weird.gif Although your hair looks good now, you don't want to jeopardize your hair's health (as well as your scalp) by applying chemicals every month. Your hair looks great though!

I feel it's best to relax when your hair "tells" you to. The problem I've had in the past was that I would let my hair go for months and months (until May I had waited over 6 months!) thinking I was doing my hair a favor. Well the breakage didn't agree! Now I am busy nursing my hair back to health because so much hair broke off in the back. My hair dresser asked me what I was thinking and said that since my hair strands are fragile I need to relax more often. So now I've gone the other way around and I'm relaxing more often ( 6 weeks, 5 weeks, whenever its obvious from the texture, breakage and shedding that its about that time! Do what works for you, just make sure you deep condition and maintain your hair properly.

Sheba is right. It based on the textures and also how you care for it. I'm 11 weeks post relaxer and have about 1-1.5" in growth but I have no breakage just because of the way I handle my hair. If you find you can't handle it and it's breaking too much then relax it.
