Consequences of RELAXING Forever???

I am 20 and have been relaxing my hair for about 12 years now and I havent had any problems when it came to the relaxer, It was how I was treating my poor hair in the past with weaves and infrequent washing that left me bald headed by the age of 18 (and I do mean bald headed) Now I am grazing shoulder length once again in my life and this time I am planning on gaaining lengh instaed of losing it. I am thinking about giving my hair a one year break from the relaxer next year just for some curious experimenting (not going natural) Just wanted to see, I hope that isnt a bad idea

now, 20 months relaxed..that spot is as strong as ever. no breakage..split ends..nothing. entire head is full of strong healthy hair that is growing nicely and at a somewhat even all over length

I do feel like relaxers have made my hair thinner and Im transitioning to see what my natural hair is like and I want more thickness.

I'm 32 this year and have been relaxed since I was 12yrs old. I had a Leisure Curl in between this time at 17-20yrs. The only reasons I have had problems with thinning (in the past) is bad hairdressers and bad maintanence by myself. Now that I have found this board my hair has never been healthier. IMO sometimes it is all about looking after your hair as though it is the most expensive casmere jumper(!!!) regardless of whether you are natural or relaxed. Also the relaxers have come along way since they were first introduced.Having said that I would like to transition one day once I reach my goal.

My grandmother has a head full of hair and she also relaxes;;;; But, one key thing that I notice she frequents is getting her ends trimmed.

i started relaxing when i was 17,i have had a total of 5 touchups b4 i went natural (relaxed twice a year). my hair actually gained thickness after i relaxed because i wasnt pressing my hair every two weeks.

My first relaxer was at age 5 and my last one was at age 21. My hair actually became thicker over time, but that's only because I changed bad hair habits. I am now natural. I am growing long hair, but I want it to be all natural.

My hair seemed to get thinner the longer I relaxed...though it's not the reason I began to transition. I always thought I'd relax forever...a bad relaxer changed all that.
