Relaxer line up: What do you use and why?

I'm in the market for a new relaxer. My recent experiences with PM and Joico have taught me that tried is not always true. I've been using Vitale relaxer for 7 years now, but maybe it's time for a change.

I'm not necessarily giving up on Vitale, but I think it would be good to know what's out there, especially from LHCF ladies with hair like mine: fine strands, but densly packed.

So tell me:

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever

2. The relaxer you use

3. Why you use it, the benefits

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh.

Thanks:yep:

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever - 4a

2. The relaxer you use - Affirm Sensitive

3. Why you use it, the benefits - It has complete conditioning system

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh - Those with Lye in them.

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever 4b in between fine and medium but more fine than medium lol

2. The relaxer you use mizani lye for medium/normal hair

3. Why you use it, the benefits i always have great results with it so i'm sticking with it

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh. ORS lye made my hair dry, silk elements lye severely underprocessed me (but it did make my hair soft and silky which i liked), optimum multimineral relaxer also underprocessed me AND made my hair dry boooooo

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever - My new growth is always thick and dense and I do not see or feel a definite curl pattern so I think I would be considered 4b.

2. The relaxer you use - Hawaiian Silky. I have used this faithfully for 2 years. I think this is made by the same company that makes Vitale. I was thinking about trying Vitale also, but I may wait until after I meet my next hair goal.

3. Why you use it, the benefits - I like it because it leaves my hair feeling soft, shiny, and silky.

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh -
Revlon Realistic Lye - I liked this overall, but my hair just did not feel as moisturized or conditioned like as when i used other relaxers. I did like the leave in that came in the relaxer kit though.

Motions - Worked well at first, then my hair just seemed not to respond to it well anymore. Over time, my hair was just dry and frizzy.

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever= 3c & 4a mix more 3c

2. The relaxer you use= ORS No Lye:grin:

3. Why you use it, the benefits= Heard a great deal about it and it does live up to its rep:yep:

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh.=Bantu, Lusters Pink, my hair reverted and turned an ugly rust color.

So tell me:

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever- 4b, fine with medium density

2. The relaxer you use- Currently Mizani mild (lye)

3. Why you use it, the benefits- Mizani always worked well for me. Design Essentials and Hawaiian silky worked well too

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh.- Pink oil relaxer, I didn't like fiberguard either, precise, just about any no lye although mizani no lye did me right

So tell me:

1. Your hair type, texture, whatever- 4b, coarse and thick

2. The relaxer you use- Mo Body by Vitale (lye)

3. Why you use it, the benefits- processes well, I just switched to lye relaxers.

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh-Bantu, any "super", Affirm, Mizani regular(I LOVED THE Sensitive scalp formulation), Hawaiian Silky, Motions--always seemed to not properly process my hair--under relaxed or left it dry and brittle.

I'm texturized 4a thick and I think the relaxer matter much less than the process and other product I use with it. :yep: But I do use Phyto because it doesn't burn, it doesn't stink, and it doesn't make my hair all flat and weird.

On relaxer day actually use all these...

From left to right is...
Phyto II, StyleOne pure protein, Affirm Fiberguard, Aphogee EFA, Roux Porosity Control, Aphogee Green Tea Reconstructor (I spiked w/ silk and sprayed on my hair the night before), StyleOne clarifier (I'm gonna use it tomorrow), Eqyss MegaTek, SP Keratin Oil (using that one after I clarify).

Procedure...
* Spray dry hair with distilled water spiked with 1-2% SAA and allow it to dry
* Coat previously relaxed hair lightly with diluted neutralizing poo (or PC). Just lather in hands and add a little water and coat previously relaxed hair. It should not be wet and avoiding NG.
* Mix relaxer and allow 20 minute to develop (per instructions) and add pure keratin and 1.5 tsp of aphogee EFA concentrate oil

My totally processing time (smoothing and application) is 10 minutes

* After rinsing the relaxer, I use Affirm Fiberguard for 5 minutes and rinse
* Pour ACV spiked water over hair and leave for 1-2 minutes
* Neutralize with the poo that comes in the kit (2-3 minutes)
* Pour ACV spiked water over hair and leave for 1-2 minutes
* Neutralize (I repeat neutralizing and ACV rinse until the foam is white)
* Apply fiberguard (for 5 minutes then rinse well)

First wash post-relaxer procedure:

1. neutralize (I actually use neutralize poo for the next 3 or so washes)--just in case
2. clarify--to remove relaxer residue that is neutralized but still stuck to your hair preventing your products from working
3. light/medium protein treatment (w/ heat for 30 minutes)--to replace what was stripped by the relaxer. i like to use collagen or ceramides for this first treatment.

Off topic to the Phytorelaxer user:rolleyes:: Hair Cousin! Your rollerset!
Love it! I must get this dvd.:yep:

Okay back to thread topic...

My hair type is fine. 3abc???

2. The relaxer you use
Phytospecific 2

3. Why you use it, the benefits

My hair appears to be doing really well now. I have also used Dudley's sensitive scalp in the past, but that seemed to leave me really dry.

4. Relaxers that didn't go over so well, or were too harsh.
Mizani sucks for me. My hair breaks and everything. No good.

IDN, if Vitale works for you, I wouldn't switch.

My hair type is 4a&b.
I use Just for Me Relaxer
I use kids perms b/c I have very sensitive skin :burning: and the kid relaxers I don't burn and I don't get sores .....My hair gets as straight as the regular relaxer. It's just sensitive on my scalp
