Relaxed Ladies, Do you plan on going natural

I NEVER thought I'd go natural. If someone had asked me a year ago, I would have definitely said NO! Even after my hair broke off from the relaxer, I still said NO...that I'd just wait a while. But then I started reading and saw that I could do it, too. I just changed my mind, that's all. We'll see. I'm still on the journey right now and I don't plan on a big chop at this point.

Me neither hairlove...Plus I am going back to school in August where the black population is slim to none so now I wont have to worry about touch ups, str8tening, findings products.etc. Unlike my relaxed hair my natural hair seems to like every product.

i didnt intend on transioning. i was doing a "fake transition" so to speak, i had every intention to relax my hair at the end of year 2 or 3.. now im not so sure. i love my natural hair. i didnt realise how easy it would be to take care of, or how easily i could get striaght styles out of it. so im thinking i may just continue this natural thing for a while but ill always have the door open to perming if i so decide.

Even two months ago, before my BC, I never would have thought that I'd go natural. I thought that my hair was just way too kinky and coarse. I think that dealing with the two textures of straightened relaxed hair and my curly new growth gave me a misconception about the actual texture of my hair. My natural hair is by no means 'silky' or 'wavy', it really is very curly/kinky, but it definitely isn't as hard to manage as I thought it would be. For me, it is easier to style my hair natural than it was when I was relaxed. I don't have to curl my hair with rollers anymore because it's already curled!!

I would love to go natural, but I have never, ever been able to handle my dense hair. My hair has caused me so much grief at times that my husband has found me crying. I am just not able to get a comb through the forest w/o primping my branches.

I plan to go natural and re-relax my hair with a lye relaxer [as opposed to no-lye, which is what my hair is currently relaxed with]. If things go well with my hair in its natural state, I may continue to keep it natural...

I'm transitioning right now. I never thought of going natural until after I joined this forum. I'm curious to see my natural hair texture. Btw, I used to think as long as your hair doesn't have weave or fake hair in it, then it's natural! :D But months ago, I learned natural hair is chemical/relaxer-free hair. ;) I also thought that when my mom said my hair was nappy, I needed a relaxer. In all actuality, that so-called "nappy" hair is something God made grow out of my head. With the help of God and now that I have gained knowledge for myself about black hair, I feel like this is one of the best decisions I have made for healthier hair for me! :)

Lord, no. If you can rock it, ALL POWER TO YOU! I know I couldn't though, lol. I like having a straight style WAY to much. And Lord knows my nappy roots are already hard enough for me to handle.

yes! 2 years ago i cut all of my relaxed hair off and went natural and i loved the texture and curls. it was so much healthier. my hair is currently 22.5" long so i'm not going to cut it, but i will do half inch trims every few months. my goal is waistlength so hopefully by then my hair will be mostly natural. ( i refuse to cut it though, i'll let it grow out and gradually trim it.) by the way, i haven't had a relaxer since august 2004. i relaxed it because my hair is very, very thick in it's natural state, but i got tired of taking care of it, (lazy, and it was a lot of work), but i think i'm ready again. we'll see.

Yes, definitely. I will do it when I am much older, though. It won't bother me in the least to chop once I'm ready...I've done it in the past. I just have to be ready, and I don't doubt that once I am 50 or so, I will be ready for a short natural. I will let it grow as long as it can, but assuming I die in my old age, I'm leaving the way I came .

Nah, not in the near future, but I swear some of these beautiful natural heads on this board make me consider it from time to time. I relax every 4 months, who knows maybe one day I will just stop relaxing and see what happens. Then again something like that is a serious decision that needs to be more planned out.

yes in the future. i also plan on having locks sometime in the future as well and shaving my head bald. i'm also gonna try a short halle berry style in hot pink. all in the future though.

just to update. i have

No time soon for me. I think when I get older, in my 60's, I may consider it, but right now, my natural hair takes way to much time and energy.

thanx jainygirl. i've got pics of the chop in my album

No. I tried transitioning for 7+ months and it didn't work out. I had about 5 inches of natural hair along with my relaxed hair and I couldn't handle the reversion when I had straight styles, the constant battle between textures, how my hair looked after I worked out...it was just too much for me. I respect all those ladies who have beautiful natural hair, but I just can't do it. Besides, my hair still grows while it's relaxed so I don't think I'm missing out on anything but having pretty coils.

Yes. I plan to start transitioning in 2005 after reaching my goal of bra-strap.

I played with the idea here and there, but realistically I don't think it will ever happen. I love my hair straight and if I were natural I'd just be using other methods to make my hair straight.

I've been pondering going natural, but I don't think it will be anytime soon.

I don't think I will ever go natural because I just love the relaxed look, but people do change!!

I decided tonight..well been thinking about it for days now, that I'm going back to natural. Being relaxed/texturized isn't as great as I thought it would be. I don't like how much weaker my texturized/relaxed feels compared to my natural hair....

I probably will go natural and wear a short afro when I'm past this vain stage.

I thought about it for the past 2 years now.....and I still say not now....so for now no....For future maybe......

I am still considering it, but I must lose at least 40 pounds before I do it. I think natural hair with a slimmer face would look nice on me. I don't worry about it not growing back because it will. It's just hair.

I would love to go natural. However, I don't think I'd be able to manage my hair very well if I did (it's very thick).

Hmm.... :crystalba Perhaps in the future although currently, it is not my intention. At this time, I am really enjoying learning how to care for my relaxed hair properly, for the first time in my life.

When I look at beautiful natural manes like the ones Jessy, SVT and Nay have, for example, I am so inspired. They and other natural ladies really make me appreciate the beauty of AA hair and its versatility even more. We have the best and most beautiful hair on the planet. :)

The more I put off getting my touchup, the more I like having my little coils and curls. I don't think I could do the BC though....

Wildflower, I can totally relate! I said that EXACT SAME THING!
I ABSOLUTELY LUV'd my relaxed hair.. the look, everything about it.... then all of a SUDDEN I changed... I became very curious about my natural hair.

...ok, just my lil 2 cents

No!
I love being texturized.
My texturized texture is very close to my natural hair.

hiza...
