Relaxed Ladies, Do you plan on going natural

I'm thinking about it.. my hair has been relaxed since I was way little..I really never knew what my "real" hair was like.. and from the new growth coming in..to me, so far..my mom could have just let me have curly hair and it would have looked really nice.. I think..lol I'm either going to go natural..or get a texturizer..I have to wait till there are more inches of new growth to see.. I've gone about 9-10 weeks w/o a relaxer and it doesn't bother me at all.. when before, I always relaxed whenever I had new growth... I didn't know that I could wait.. So, I'm going to go natural or get a texturizer.. it just depends on what my "real" hair is like..

Maybe...if my hair reaches waist length, if it doesn't, then I wouldn't go back to natural...plus, I don't know if I could take care of all that nappy new growth (I don't mean nappy in a bad way

).

That's a good question. I love the way my natural hair looks and feels and I also remember my own challenges trying to manage my naps (although I didn't know anything about hair back then). For now I say no. I intend to master growing and caring for my relaxed hair first.

Natural ? Well I would like to but I don't have the courage to start from scratch. Plus I probably just end up getting it relaxed again.

I just got my last per on Feb.28 and just decided that would be my last one. This will be my second time growing out a perm . I started March 2001 because my hair was starting to look thin, but by Dec i was ready to get another because i just didnt WANT to try and manage my own nappy coils. But now i actually realize that without a perm , my hair was growing at a faster rate because it took only about 8-9 months to completely grow it out to the length i already had which was to the end of my neck.SOOO,Yes i am going back to my roots,my naturalness. BUT i am not doing a BIG CHOP, i will be transitioning...

WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

no, because i would just straighten it anyway by pressing, some ladies have some beautiful natural hair on this site, but i dont think my hair would ever compare

Maybe, my relaxed hair looks almost exactly like my natural hair. I keep it in twistouts all the time now, and I could have the same look without a relaxer... but the relaxer makes it easy to straighten without any heat.

I dunno, I only relax twice a year these days anyways, actually I was supposed to relax it on the 9th of this month but I didn't. I guess I will... maybe after I reach a goal length.

I however understand that it's just not for everyone. I've given up on trying to convince people. Now it just "do as you choose" with me. We are all beautiful, relaxed or nappy...

ITA - Before I did the BC, I thought that there was no way that I could handle my natural hair because it was too kinky and unmanagable. I would have a hard time with my new growth only a few weeks after a touch up. Since I went natural I realize how wrong I was. I really love the texture of my tiny curls and I can't stop playing with them.

Definetly. Transitioning as we speak. It's not easy for me either, but it's not because of my cottony new growth it's because of my rebellious processed hair that likes to break shed, and be hard. Go figure

GOOD LUCK JEALJE!

I had relaxers in my hair since I was 18, and I had just turned 45 when I decided to go natural because I contemplated my own death and I wanted to make peace with the hair God gave me before I die. I was truly scared of the idea of handling my nappy naps, because I had tried to go natural before and it had been a total disaster, but this time I was determined and I said, God, you've got to help me with this.

I was able to stick with it through God's grace, sheer determination, and because I really gave up the notion of how my hair should look and act while natural. I didn't expect it to be shiny and silky and do the things straight hair did. I learned to let it do its thang and work from there. I did lots of research and experimentation and brainstorming with other nappies. It's been a truly rewarding experience.

I am already natural, but I've been thinking about locing in the near future.

I don't mean to be a pain, but it's funny how many people said no because they don't want to "deal" with their natural hair. My question is how do you know how "dealing" with your natural hair will be if you've never done it (and I don't mean dealing with your new growth) And for those that said they will when they're "older" or when their hair reaches "x length", why? For those who said when they're older, what's the difference? And for those who said when it reaches "x length", do you think you're really going to want to cut all of that hair off and go natural?

TIA for your responses

Hi Ms.Kenesha,

I didn't elaborate on my first response but, to answer one of your questions, I have dealt with my natural hair before and I prefer my hair relaxed right now. Not to say I wouldn't ever change my mind that's just how I feel currently.

What do you do? Are you in the military (i've heard of people in the military say that they can't have wear "big" natural hair).

You guessed it

You cant have hair thats a "fad" or more than 3 inches in bulk

I have seen very few natural ladies in the military. The ones I see have very very very very very short hair. If I was to go natural I would want to big puff

Hmmm...wasnt sure if I answered this one....here goes.

MAYBE. One thing that is for sure, though...I will NEVER "start from scratch" by doing the BC....neva, neva, neva, I say!!

I will say this...if I ever have daughters, I won't put them through a relaxer...i will let them have their own natural texture so they dont have to be "dependent" on the touchup!

I definitely plan on doing it someday.I would be so excited to know what my natural hair is like. And I'd have so much fun with shake and go 's

That is probably why it didn't work out for you. "Naps" shouldn't have to be smooth out to look nice, imo.

No,
I did the transition thing for about 6 mths but that's all I could take. Plus, I missed my relaxed hair. My natural curls were too tight for me.

I was wondering about that "smoothing out naps" part too.

ok sorry for not being specific enough. I didn't mean smooth out as in trying to get it straight or anything. I meant trying to detangle after a wash and conditionner.I always had to my My hair did get easier to comb, but the truth is I went natural coz I thought it would be easier and take me less time to take care of my hair. I was wrong. I didn't even know how to do a three strand braids in the beginning....

Overall I liked and enjoyed the experience.
