Relaxed ladies, do you feel left out when your hair idol goes natural?

Actually, I feel very happy for them and they remain my hair inspiration. I have many hair inspirations on this board who are natural to begin with.:)

I am always happy when someone I admired with relaxed hair goes natural. :yep: But I've had people (jokingly) try to talk me out of going natural for this very reason though. Almost like I can't be an inspiration to them after that.:ohwell: But the same thing can be said about cutting hair period, once a longhair cuts their hair-- people feel kinda let down.

This is a good topic though. Personally, I probably feel more shaken up when someone I've looked up to hairwise relaxed or natural cuts their hair period. I guess going from relaxed to natural does involve a cut at some point too , but I wouldn't be salty about someone doing this just b/c they aren't relaxed like me anymore. It is the cut iself, I'm trying to deal with.

There were two major instances I remember on other boards where I felt kinda down. One of the ladies was a long haired relaxed gal and did a BC (hi lovegrowth ) and the other was a BSL long haired natural (hi eboni ) and cut a significant amount of hair. Since I was probably more attached to their hair then they were, a piece of me died (being dramatic here  )when they both did the cutting. But they were happy which is the most important thing! and I and everyone else who was like whyyyyyyyyy:( got over it! Lovegrowths natural hair is FIERCE and Eb's cut was SLAMMIN'! I just need to stop being so attached to other people's hair :lachen:

Nope. Probably because I have natural and relaxed ladies who's albums I love to frequent. So many ladies here have long, beautiful relaxed hair. You'll no trouble finding another one. :look: Besides her natural journey might help with your stretches. Or, heaven forbid, inspire you to try natural. I'm 6 months post and I think I've gotten the best tips from the naturals (or transistioners) than relaxed-heads.

I'm not relaxed, but I will say that I only feel sad when they stop posting. That's happened to me on the other board a few times. (Asha and yante coi for example) :(

I guess the only way I would be affected is if they stop treating their hair properly. My hair idols were chosen because they have healthy hair no matter what their method of styling. So in a way, my hair idols are here to stay.

I also agree with qtpie if they stop posting on here.

Michelle is one of my favorites, and she's going natural. I want her to stay relaxed with me.

I think I kind of know what you mean. For me, I feel bad because there aren't many sisters around me who are trying to grow their hair. So when someone cuts her hair I feel like I'm being singled out; like other black people are thinking "when are you going to cut yours?" I know this sounds crazy, but I think it's because I always get comments from other women like "I don't care about long hair", "I had long hair when I was younger, it doesn't do anything for me now".

I guess I feel like many other black people think I'm a sell-out because I'm growing my hair long or because I relax my hair. But even so, I just figure I have to be me. If that means I relax my hair and keep it long, then so be it. I have no one to please but myself and God.:)

Now there's a blast from the past! I wonder what happened to her, I loved her album.

It hasn't happened yet but I honestly, I think I would kind of feel like "noooo, stay relaxed with me."

Seriously, there are some hair care tips that are universal so I would still look up to them. But then again there are those tips for relaxed hair that are important more for relaxed hair than natural. I guess I would probably have to follow-up on someone else for those tips.

But I have about 6 here lol, I'm greedy!
