Oh, for my record, and in case anyone else is reading, I think my post was a bit confusing. I neutralize THREE times, leaving the poo on 15-30 mins each time. Before my first neutralizer, after rinsing out the relaxer for 10-15 mins, I did the quick scalp wash with the neutralizing poo and then poured on the baking soda water. It absolutely helped with the smell. I don't even smell a hint of chemical. I may just stick with the amino acid tx after relaxing anyway bc it seems to do my hair well.

Is it possible to relax previously colored hair? Or do I have to grow out the hair dye first? I dye my hair jet black.
EDIT: Saw on Reddit that it's not a good idea. Sigh, maybe it's time to rock a wig for a few months, I need a break without shaving my hair off.

I don't think it's a lost cause though. I remember some ladies dying and relaxing their hair just fine. I recall that there's a waiting period of some sort between the two, that's all.
Found some old threads that might be helpful. GL! :)

Okay, YMMV,
but once i relaxed my bleached (i had streaks) hair. I used a mild relaxer on the fine hair timing, and my relaxer had guanadine, instead of calcium or whatever else they have nowadays. I also did a protein treatment some time before the relaxer. That's the only way I escaped with hair in tact.

Had to check in with this thread to verify how many weeks post I am...

Looks like I'm 12 weeks post today - and it feels like it!

I'm keeping all this newgrowth soft and manageable with tried and true LHCF methods I've been using for years. I think I'll go another 2 weeks if I can. I have some trips and events starting Memorial Day weekend, so I want to time this relaxer where I won't have 'flat' hair while I'm out in the sun. Need a lil bit of newgrowth bump for my hair to be juuuuust right for the heat. :)

3 weeks and 3 days post. I have not a lick of new growth - as usual. lol My hair just doesn't seem to show any new growth until about 8-10 weeks post relaxer. I guess that would be good for some ladies but I just can't help but wonder why I don't seem to have any growth for WEEKS after my relaxers.

Maybe my perception is skewed bc I stretch 6-9 months so I'm used to having A LOT more new growth most of the time.

I dont know if imma go back to stretching my relaxers, or pause blowdrying and straightening. It's gonna start getting warm and I'm not gonna want to do either of them :lachen: Plus ya girl is getting tired.

I hear ya! The main reason I'm even considering going 14 weeks is I have so many planned outdoor activities coming up.

Plus, my newgrowth is behaving for the most part. If the shedding gets nuts or tangling is out of control, I'll relax with the quickness!

I think this is very typical, presumably the scalp is just healing / getting back to normal growing after a relaxer. Just take off one month of expected growth for each relaxer imo. It’s probably not a full month of growth but at least a week or two. I think it takes me 2 weeks to notice any growth. And your ng is so short it would be stretched by the weight of your long strands and its just hard to tell.
