Reached my goal...but now it's breaking off!!!

Congrats girl. Your hair is beautiful. I have to same problem with my nape except mine is a lot further up than yours. I had to stop perming that area because it's very fragile. Also be careful of the necklaces you wear. Hair gets caught, tangles and breaks.
You hairline may be fragile period hence the breakage in the front too.
Are you putting enough conditioner on those areas? You may want to part your hair in 6 sections when applying conditioner to make sure of even distribution.
Hope this helps.

First of all :congrats: on making goal. Second, ITA w/ Sweet
just don't relax the parts that are showing the most damage and make sure you're hitting those spots with conditioner.

:dizzy::droolings  Where have you and your hair been hiding/lurking:blush: It's Gorgeous!!!! Breakage and allllllll. Sorry I had to get that out.

I would suggest some DC treatments, when's the last time you did a protein treatment? Also not relaxing those breaking area's on schedule, how about doing those area's every other touch up and stay away from Essations, go back to what you know works.

Your friend did a nice job with the trim it looks good and I'm sure as it grows you can do small trims to help thicken it up. I can only imagine how it would look if it was thicker

I agree especially the bold, that one always sneaks by on use, necklaces can do some terrible things to folks nape are.

Your hair is lovely, despite the breakage.
This was happening to me before I found
LHCF... I think it was from coloring my hair...
or some medicine i was using... I can't remember...
anyway...
are you still brushing your hair? or using fine tooth combs?
Maybe you should take a break from that.
I THREW MY BRUSHES & FINE TOOTH COMBS AWAY
and switched to a Jilbere seamless comb that I only use
in the shower.
Also, you should do deep conditioning in sections
and use a stronger protein treatment.

BTW, BW Eyes, I've been lurking since 2002. Tee hee! I did a protein treatment first using Elasta QP a couple of times. Then I switched to Mizani's Kerafuse (?) treatment. My girlfriend told me that I was using too much protein and my hair was too dry. I just panicked and overloaded on the protein. Now I am working on moisturizing the ends and new growth.

My necklace catches my kitchen all the time. It rips little hairs out. Dangit!! Didn't even pay attention to that. Good one, Sweet C.

I will hold off on the relaxers. Needless to say, I went back to Affirm. I am due for a touch up in 2 weeks. It's been 3 months since my last one. I am thinking about waiting another 2 or 3 months and just doing braid outs.

Thanks for the compliments, ladies.

Your hair is beautiful. My hair started breaking just like yours when I switched from Design to Mizani. Something in that Mizani I am allergic to. I put some hydrocortisone cream in the breaking spots, dc, and did protien treatments. It is now back on track. Do those breaking areas itch? If so you may have contact dermatitis. That's what I had

I deep conditioned in sections for the first time yesterday. I had to in order to get to the new growth. I will continue to do that. I can't even figure out why I was being stingy with my own products. I still brush my hair too. See what happens when you get comfortable??? You start slippin. I will stop brushing. Thank you.

THAT IS SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!! [prayer]Lord, if I get to this length...I promise I won't complain and ask for more :lachen:!! As for the breakage, maybe a protein treatment?

Thank you! Let's see...I am not itching more than usual. Reading your post makes me realize one of my errors, though. I am treating my whole head the same way and I am not paying special attention to the breaking areas. See, you put the cream on the "breaking spots". I am not giving my spots the extra TLC that they need. I wish I could add that little icon that is spanking the other little icon. I need a whoppin.

Hey, Pisces sister! I looked at your album. NIIIIICE! I like those thick curls from your steam rollers. When you reach your goal, please don't slack off with your regimine like I did.

I mean...don't slack off on your R-E-G-I-M-E-N. LOL!

The first thought i got when seeing the pictures is either your tying your scarf to tight or the bands your using to tie/hold your hair is causing the breakage, something is putting stress on those areas
it's something that your doing all the time, how often do you change up your styles?

goodness you have such beautiful progress
nice hair

You most certainly do!:pant: I 2nd those ladies in prayer.

As for the situation at hand, in addition to what's already been said, I'd say SUPER low manipulation, and moisture, moisture, moisture. Do you baggy? Maybe some whole head baggying would do you some good?

OK, so that was seriously, seriously pretty!

I had a similar problem a few months back when I reached BSL; the nape and eventually the center back of my hair broke off to the point where I realized it was best to cut it up to just above APL and start again.

I think the culprit for me may have been the hair clips I was using and the ponytails I was wearing; I've also thought about the way I've been combing my hair--sometimes when you get to certain sections in the back, it can be harder to be as gentle as with sections that are easier to reach. And I agree that you should pay very special attention to protecting the ends on the broken parts--buy products just for breakage and use them on your trouble spots.

I'm protecting and treating my ends a lot more diligently now, and my hair is back to APL and growing--and no see-thru middle! Good luck!

Your hair is so beautiful and I'm sorry that you're experiencing the breakage. I believe it will recover...your hair didn't come this far to end in failure.

WOOOOOWWW!!!! Yor hair is simply GORGEOUS!!!!

Sorry to hear about your breakgae. Do you think that it may be the relaxer switch since you didn't have any breakage with Affirm?

Thanks! I rotate my styles: ponytails, hair clipped in the back or to the side, headbands, etc. I also rotate my bedtime styles: wrapping, rolling, loose braid, etc. I really believe the breakage is because of the relaxer. I do have to be more careful, though. I sometimes make the ponytails too tight, trying to look "sleek".

Yes, I am almost certain that the breakage is from the switch. I went back to Affirm. Now, I have to be careful and nurse it back to help. Thank goodness for this forum.

Hey, I am envious of your mac page!! Do I need to go back to school or something? I have a macbook pro and I don't know how to use half the features. I gotta take the time to LEARN. Your hair looks HEALTHY, THICK, and EVEN. It's growing fast too.

Okay first off your hair is beautiful. I thank you for posting you are helping us who have just reached lengths in these areas a thing or two about edges and napes, it looks like those are areas that you will always need to pay special attention to. Now I have to say goodbye to my necklaces or at least not wear them as often. That is going to be a hard one. I looooooove jewelry. :lachen:
Second here is the whoppin you believe you have coming :spank: (this is in the more section where the smilies are. :yep:

Third another product you could try is amla or shikakai either the oil or the powder to help you strengthen those areas. I am using those now and have considerably less shedding and no breakage.

I too have a very sensitive edge area so I am paying particular attention to that area, I cannot do the pull back of hair or any tension. I even have to be careful of my cornrows and flat twists so that I am not pulling too tight. These areas are also my slow growth areas.

Be very mindful of EVERYTHING that causes tension or pulling and as the others suggested stop or delay your touch ups in those areas.

.

I can't believe you have a lot of breakage. It looks absolutely lovely to me.

BonFille, Your hair is so beautiful!!!

I am sorry to hear about your breakage. :nono:

We all know how stressful that is.

But, girl I have been through my breakage bouts and after it gets fixed, it ends up not being as bad as I thought.

Since you already obviously take good care for your hair, could it be stress? Someone may have mentioned that.

Also, I just realized that, like Sweet Cashew mention, that my nape is just fragile compared to the rest.

For years, I've spent my life thinking that area was tougher. But now I realize that it is fine and much softer than the rest of my hair. I have been stretching the relaxer in that section to every other touchup and that has helped.

I feel silly giving someone with all that beautiful healthy hair advice, but we are all in the same boat here, I know. Good luck in getting a hold of that - I know you will get over this time and (hint hint) show us more pics of your hair in the future.

I think the previous posters gave you excellent advice about your breakage problem.
I just wanted to say CONGRATS to reaching your goal and your hair looks amazing:yep:
